Ethel Amburgey owned and operated Ada Motel until her retirement

Ethel G. (Sizemore) Amburgey, age 93, died Wednesday, May 8, 2013 at 5:35 p.m. at Richland Manor Nursing Home, Bluffton.

She was born on October 24, 1919 in Bull Creek, KY. to John and Hettie (Gray) Sizemore, who preceded her in death. On December 27, 1941 she married Irvin N. Amburgey, who preceded her in death on November 18, 1993.

Ethel was a homemaker. She owned and operated the Ada Motel until her retirement. She worked many years as a Licensed Practical Nurse at Lackey Hospital in Lackey, KY and also worked at the Ada Nursing Home for over 15 years.

Corsie Bailey, 1923 - 2013

Corsie Bailey, age 89, died Tuesday, May 7, 2013 at 7:40 am at at her sons residence in Ridgeway, Ohio.

She was born on May 28, 1923 in Salyersville, Kentucky to George and Susan (Bailey) Prater who preceded her in death. She first married John Bailey on December 7, 1942 and he died on October 6, 1979. She later married Donald F. Gossard and they divorced after 22 years.

Corsie was a homemaker. She was a member of the Quickstep Pentecostal Church of God, Alger. 

Schulman speaks to Kiwanis Club

President-Elect Heather Cox called the May 7 meeting of the Ada Kiwanis Club to order at noon in McIntosh Center, ONU.

The invocation was offered by Jon Umphress

The member birthday of Al Baillis (May 11) was noted.

The membership anniversary of Jon Umphress  (May 6, 1997) was also noted.

Jeffrey and Anne Schulman were congratulated on their 36th wedding anniversary, which will be celebrated on May 7th.

ONU undergraduate commencement on May 12

Ohio Northern University will celebrate its 2013 Undergraduate Commencement Ceremony in the Sports Center on Sunday, May 12, at 2 p.m. in the Sports Center. About 550 students will be awarded degrees.

Robert Manning, Mars Exploration Program chief engineer at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) in Pasadena, Calif., will address the graduating students as the guest speaker and receive an honorary degree from the University. Oscar J. and Judith D. (Jacobs) Mifsud also will receive honorary degrees.

Courtney Hetrick, graduating electrical engineering major from Frazeysburg, Ohio, will serve as the student speaker.

Ada FFA members attend Ohio convention

Thirteen members of the Ada FFA Chapter recently attended the Ohio FFA Convention in Columbus. Throughout the day, they attended a leadership workshop, toured the Career Show,  participated  in a general convention session, and finished at the Longhorn Steakhouse.

“Small Animals Day”
On Wednesday, May 8, the Ada FFA held an event called “Small Animals Day.” The yearly event is to educate K-3 students about animal care, welfare, practices, foods, and safety. A small petting zoo with all kinds of student projects, as well as tractors was set up as part of the day.
