MEDIA RELEASE__On Saturday, June 14, the Swiss Community Historical Society will host a blacksmithing demonstration by Keith Sommer, SCHS curator. This is the first of three Second Saturday events to be held at the homestead in 2025.

Blacksmithing was a once-common task at the Schumacher Homestead. Sommer will work with various blacksmith tools for hammering, punching and welding wrought iron and steel, while using a forge fire to heat the metal to “white hot” before shaping into the desired end result. 

This week, ONU's 2025 ACE Day Committee is reaching out to individuals and businesses for community service project ideas for the next event on the morning of Saturday, August 23, 2025

ACE stands for "Ada Community Engagement Day." Annually, over 300 students, faculty and staff members take to the streets of Ada to perform community service projects. These projects include visiting with the elderly, cleaning, landscaping, painting, and organizing for a variety of businesses, agencies, and individual households in Ada and the surrounding communities. ACE Day is on its 13th year.
