Kiwanis Club hears from Key Leaders Shelby Hazelton and Mackenzie Wills

President Myrna McCurdy called the weekly meeting of the Ada Kiwanis Club to order on Tuesday, June 11 at noon at McIntosh Center, ONU.

Jaime & McCormick Wills, Shelby Hazelton & Mackenzie Wills were welcomed as guests.

The birthday of Jeff Schulman (June 17) was noted.

Harold is warmly welcomed after a winter in Florida and he announced that he has a new granddaughter.

In business:

-Members heard an updated financial report.
-Secretary Brian Myers reported that he, along with Jeff Schulman, Jon Umphress, Bob and Myrna McCurdy and Matt and Claudia Crawford attended the Delphos Division 2 meeting on June 5th.
-A very gracious thank you was received from Levi Kinglier who thanked the club for the Kiwanis scholarship as well as sponsoring him for HOBY (Hugh O’Brian Youth program. He noted that it was a life-changing experience and said, “I’m forever in your debt for making that experience possible for me.”
-The next meeting will be Wednesday, June 12 at 6 p.m. at Community Health Professions building.
-The club will sponsor the ReStore Community meal for July 19. Volunteers were recruited.
-President Myrna McCurdy briefly discussed the Kiwanis basket event at the Ohio District Convention.
-The club will be planting a tree planting on Wednesday, July 10 in memory of the late Von Spellman, at War Memorial Park. The meeting will be a picnic at 6 pm. The regular Tuesday noon meeting will be cancelled. 

-President Myrna McCurdy the club received acknowledgement for a donation to the Kiwanis and recognition for being a distinguished club last week.
-The club agreed to support the Girl Scout Puzzle Project
-Jeff Schulman reported on some of the other projects being carried out by other clubs including donating teddy bears and pediatric boards to the EMS unit(s). Also, he noted that the Kiwanis Foundation would probably support something like a skate park in Ada. He would like the club to consider some of these projects.
-Peter Previte reported that the June 25 program will be from Chris Daniels on identity theft.

Kiwanis Education Minute:
Fifteen amendments to the Kiwanis Constitution will be discussed at this year’s annual convention. Among them are: changes in organization’s motto; discontinue two types of dues waivers; and waiver international dues for members under hardship circumstances.
-Something to consider:

On this day in 1776, the Continental Congress formed a committee to draft a Declaration of Independence calling for freedom from Britain. In 1977 Seattle Slew won the Belmont Stakes, capturing the Triple Crown.

Scott Wills introduced Shelby Hazelton and Mackenzie Wills who the club has sponsored for the Kiwanis Key Leader program.

The ladies gave a presentation on what they learned and some of the activities that they completed during the leadership-training weekend event.

They showed their extensive workbooks and showed some slides including how they had to work as a team on a balance board as well as work on their communication skills and how to trust others.

They talked about how service leadership works and how one can work to be a good leader.

The ladies mentioned that they are interested in starting a Key Club at the Ada High School.
