Update from Hardin County Hootenannies
The Hardin Co Hootenannies’ president, Laura Spradlin, opened the last meeting and asked Preston Brien to lead the American flag pledge and Megan Williams to lead the 4-H pledge. Secretary, Miranda Holbrook asked each member to say their favorite animal for the roll call and we had 11 members present.
Old business:
Just before the meeting, club members planted a Blue Spruce for Ag Credit as a thank you for allowing us to meet in their nice meeting room. Branch Manager, Ranae Sherman thanked the group for the nice way of showing their gratitude.
New business:
A form was sent around to get each member’s t-shirt size so we can place the order. 4-H upcoming deadlines and events were discussed by advisors Ray Davis and Melissa Rofe. 4-H camp sign up is on June 7th. Faith Holbrook promoted the fun she had when she has gone to 4-H camp. June 11th is the fishing derby. Everyone always has a fun time there!
Health and Safety Reports:
Seth Davis reported about trimming goat hooves. Callie Cromer reported about care of rabbits. She brought in a few of her bunnies and explained about breeds and show worthiness of rabbits as well. Of course, the bunnies were a big hit with the group!
Faith and Miranda Holbrook did a power point presentation with the help of Faith’s mom, April. They then prepared Wild West Burgers with cheese on a bun, Tossed Salad Greens with home-made creamy dressing, and served with potato chips and apple and water. Members had homework to put the menu into the food groups.
They were also to compare potato chips at the grocery, especially noting fat grams and realizing there wasn’t enough nutrient value to put chips into the veggie category. Finally, they were to list some activities for exercise to go along with eating well. This was part of their group project Star Spangled Foods.
Next meeting will be at Landyn Hijma’s home on Sun June 9th. Landyn’s mom, Tyann reminded us to bring chairs. Directions were sent via email to members. If you need directions, call 419-767-0044. Refreshments will be provided by Preston Brien, Meadow and Callie Cromer using another menu and lesson in our Star Spangled Foods book. Health and Safety reports will be given by Landyn Hijma and Laura Spradlin.
