University to host Jan. 24 meal-packing event to assist food banks
Ohio Northern University will host a meal-packing event to assemble meals for malnourished children in Haiti and the West Ohio Food Bank in the ONU Field House on Sunday, Jan. 24, from 1-3 p.m.
Approximately 150 students, faculty and staff will gather at the Field House to pack 40,000 Nutri-Plenty Meals, a highly nutritious blend of rice, soy, vegetables, vitamins and minerals. Seventy-five percent of the meals will be transported to Haiti; the remaining 25 percent will go to the West Ohio Food Bank.
“We’re looking forward to the opportunity to work with Pack Away Hunger and serve these children and families who desperately need proper nutrition,” said The Rev. David MacDonald, ONU chaplain.
“The majority of the meals will be sent to a Pack Away Hunger partner in Haiti that provides the meals to impoverished children and their families. The rest will be distributed to local food pantries.”
Pack Away Hunger is a nonprofit organization dedicated to greatly improving the lives of children and others who suffer from hunger and malnutrition.
This lack of proper nutrition creates serious health and developmental consequences for individuals and has far-reaching implications for communities. Fueled by donations from like-minded community partners, their meals are packaged by volunteers and delivered to those in need through a network of local and international hunger-relief organizations.
