National Public Health Week provides array of programs at ONU
Ohio Northern University presents Public Health Week
In recognition of National Public Health Week, Ohio Northern University will present a number of on-campus events from April 4-8.
On Monday, April 4, there will be three lectures related to Title IX in the Dicke Forum.
Kelly Jennings Yeoman, partner in the Vorys Columbus office, will present “Sexual Violence and Harassment Program: How do we recognize them? What resources and options are available?” at 1 p.m.
Muriel Black, program coordinator for the Open Arms Domestic Violence and Rape Crisis Center in Findlay, Ohio, will present “Through the Eyes of a Victim: Why do they stay? Why don’t they Report?” at 2 p.m.
Michael Tarbet, prevention coordinator at Crime Victim Services in Lima, Ohio, will present “Consent and Sexual Assault: Breaking through the myths” at 3 p.m.
Journalist Kelsey Timmerman will present “Where Am I Wearing? A Global Tour to the Countries, Factories and People That Make Our Clothes” in the McIntosh Center Ballroom on Wednesday, April 6, at 7 p.m. Timmerman has traveled extensively after curiosity about where his clothes came from led him from Honduras to Bangladesh to Cambodia to China and back again.
Members of the Allen County Public Health Department will present “Public Health: Careers and Community” in the McIntosh Activities Room on Thursday, April 7, at 5 p.m. The group will discuss careers in public health nursing, epidemiology, and health promotion and education; how public health functions in the community; and efforts that are occurring in Northwest Ohio.
In addition, throughout the week, visual displays related to Title IX and “Would You Expect to Find Public Health HERE?” will be located throughout campus. These displays will highlight how public health is related to not only health-oriented disciplines, but also disciplines such as engineering, technology, communication, psychology, geology or English.
All Public Health Week events are free and open to the public.
