James Pope was retired from Wilson's Sporting Goods
James F. Pope, 83, died on Sunday, Sept. 18, 2016, at 4:15 a.m. at Kenton Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Kenton, Ohio.
He was born on August 5, 1933, in Dunkirk, Ohio to William and Nellie (Gillen) Pope, who preceded him in death. James and his wife, Mary Hughes, married on June 22, 1991.
Mary survives in Kenton. He was previously married to Leona Patton, who survives in Ada.
He graduated from Hardin Northern High School. James was in the U.S. Army serving from June 1953 through April 1955. He formerly attended the Victory Chapel of Praise. He was retired from the Receiving Department of Wilson Sporting Goods of Ada.
Also surviving are 3 daughters: Janet (Donald) Morrison of Dola, Louise (Steve) Kindle of Dola and Autumn (Ryan) Schroeder of Findlay; 3 step-sons: Chip Decker, Steve (Angela) Decker and Craig (Melissa) Decker all of Alger; 1 step-daughter: Amber (Donald) Webb of Alger. Also surviving are 7 grand children and 1 great grandchild.
He was preceded in death by: infant son, David Pope; great grandson: Tra Lee Manns and step-daughter: Mary Agnes Ash; 4 brothers: Raymond, Richard, William and Joseph Pope; 3 sisters: Mary Shepherd, Lucille Newland, and Doris VanDyke.
A funeral service will be at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 21, at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Ada, with Pastor David Schneer officiating. Burial will be in Dunkirk Cemetery, Dunkirk, Ohio. A Graveside Military Service will be conducted by the Ada VFW Post #9381 Honor Guard.
Friend may call from 11 to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 21, prior to the time of the service at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Ada.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Charity of the Donor's Choice.
