Holiday Spectacular - a review
By Monty Siekerman
The Holiday Spectacular closed its four-performance run at the Freed Center on Saturday evening, entertaining young and old alike to packed houses.
Now the festive show moves on to the 1,774-seat Lima Civic Center for four more performances Dec. 1-3. If you missed the Holiday Spectacular in Ada, catch it in Lima.
Tickets are only $5 and are available at all Kewpee locations and the Freed Center box office.
Thoughts on this year's show (viewed Saturday matinee):
The children - 22 youngsters this year, more than usual, did a marvelous job, including Maycie Dewese, Ada first grade, and Evelyn Lehman, Harrod third grade.
Audience favorite - "Parade of the Wooden Soldiers."
Tear jerker - I'll be home for Christmas," featuring three military men dressed in uniform, my wife always cried when she heard that song.
Most reverent - "O Holy Night" beautifully sung by Emily Estep of Fresno, Calif.
Sexiest (if you can use sexy and Christmas in the same sentence) - "Santa Baby."
Fun, happy songs sung with gusto and excitement - too many to name.
The show features 18 songs presented in an hour and 15 minutes with a script that ties it all together.
With only two and a half weeks of rehearsal before opening night: A miracle.
