1927 Ada first Girl Scout troupe was formed. Mrs. Eldred Anspach (nee Izora Scott) was the first leader. It was inactive for a small period of years. Troop leaders for 1932-1935, Mrs. George (Billie) Hindall, who held the first camping trips to Indian Lake and Lake Idlewild. Other troop leaders were Laura Kampmeier, Lois Mitchell and Gertrude Hetrick. Betty Lee (Mrs. John Brewer), Billie Hindall's ’ sister, 1936-1940 and is given credit for the first organization of junior-intermediate and senior scout troops, covering almost all ages with the exception of Brownies, which Mrs. Mildred Coburn helped form in 1941. Ada became a part of the Fort Amanda Council in 1950 after operating for 23 years a “lone” troops. The council has since been re-named Appleseed Ridge Girl Scout Council, and encompasses Allen, Auglaize, Hardin, Mercer, Van Wert, Logan, Hancock, Shelby, Putnam and Paulding counties.
