FOREST PARK, Mo. — Ada High School grad Zach Beaschler, a freshman on the ONU tennis team, and Andrew Cochran of Wooster each won matches to lead the Ohio Northern men's tennis team at the ITA Central Regional Championships Friday and Saturday at the Dwight Davis Tennis Center.

 

Beaschler went 1-1 in the main 128-man draw, winning his first round match 7-5, 6-1 over Hugo Kouhkna of Transylvania (Ky.) before falling 6-1, 6-1 to 15th-seeded Tytus Metzler of Kalamazoo (Mich.) in the round of 64 for the Polar Bears (0-1 overall).

There was no team scoring.

MARIETTA — The Ohio Northern women's soccer team opened the Ohio Athletic Conference portion of its schedule with a convincing 4-0 victory at Marietta on Saturday afternoon at Marietta Field.

The Polar Bears (7-2-0 overall, 1-0-0 OAC) scored three times in a 14-minute span and cruised from there to their 18th consecutive OAC regular season victory. The Pioneers fall to 2-5-2, 0-1-0.

SUNBURY — The Ohio Northern women's golf team fell 707-705 in a tight dual match with Ohio Wesleyan Saturday and Sunday at NorthStar Golf Club.

 

The Polar Bears (19-2 overall) trailed the Battling Bishops (21-12) 367-366 after the first round and were edged 339-340 in the second round to fall by two strokes.

Sophomore Lydia Cranmer  won Medalist honors for the third time this fall and fifth time in her career with an 85-79—164.

Senior Caitlin Silva was fifth out of 17 golfers with a 90-84—174, senior Taylor Daniel  was seventh with a 95-89—184 and senior Suzanne Short was ninth with a 97-89—186. 

ADA - The Ohio Northern men's soccer program registered its first Ohio Athletic Conference victory of 2018 and seventh consecutive win as the Polar Bears toppled Marietta 1-0 on Parent's Night at Kerscher Stadium in Ada Saturday evening.

 

With the victory, Northern improves to 8-2-1 overall and 1-0-0 in OAC competition. Meanwhile, the Pioneers drop to 6-4-0 this season and 0-1-0 in league play.

NORTON - Former All-American and current senior student-athlete Ian McVey was crowned the 2018 All-Ohio Championships NCAA Division III individual champion as the Ohio Northern men's cross country team put together a strong performance at the Silver Creek Metro Park in Norton, Ohio Saturday afternoon.

The Polar Bears (33-15 overall) finished the day with 138 total team points to end fourth in the NCAA Division III team standings.
