The January 13 Ada Board of Education meeting included the 161st annual reorganization meeting and a regular meeting with reports from the high school and elementary school principals, as well as the treasurer and superintendent.

The board established roles and dates for the upcoming year:

  • Ted Griffith was sworn in as a new board member
  • Amy Mullins was elected as board president
  • Matt Gossman was elected as board vice-president
  • Meetings will take place at 6 p.m. on the third Tuesday of each month at the Board of Education office, 725 W. North Ave.
  • The Treasurer and Superintendent were authorized to act on specified financial matters on behalf of the school district.

In honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day 2022, the Icon offers the following contribution from Ohio Northern University, where Dr. King spoke in January 1968.

In a new installment of the public policy series “Critical Questions,” ONU student fellows Kennedy Aikey and Hailey Trimpey reflect on the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. (MLK).

Aikey and Trimpey discuss Dr. King’s role in the civil rights movement, his legacy and the history of King’s visit to ONU in 1968, just months before he was assassinated. They note that King participated and contributed to the civil rights movement in many ways: 

Gary G. “Dean” Rostorfer, age 69, passed away on Saturday, January 15, 2022, at Lima Memorial Health System.

He was born on October 7, 1952 in Kenton, Ohio to Russell and Alice (Brewer) Rostorfer, Jr. who preceded him in death.  On July 14, 1973, Gary married Joyce M. Harpster and she survives in Harrod.

From the front door, things look like business as usual at Tommy Tire Sales and Ada Truck Sales, 3032 OH-309. In fact the business reopened just 11 days after being hit by a tornado on December 11.

Welcome to the White City - Chicago in 1890-1893.

It's been a while since I've written a review, as my wife had an emergency back surgery and an extended stay in the hospital that has kept me busy doing other things than writing.

But even as immediate as my time has been recently this book has been on my mind quite a bit. Once again, it comes recommended by a member of the Ada book club, and is justified as a good read.

Pages
