LIMA - The Ada tennis team whitewashed Wapakoneta 5-0 indoors at the Westwood Tennis and Fitness Club Thursday night.

The match was moved from the outdoor Ada park courts to indoors at Lima due to expected high winds and rain.

The Bulldog netters evened their record at 2-2 after their second consecutive victory. Ada won the match without dropping a set, including two forfeits.

"The players enjoyed playing in the wind-free indoor courts at Westwood," said Ada head coach Dexter Woods. "The match featured many exciting points and good effort from both sides. 

For paid work experience

OhioMeansJobs Hardin County is now taking applications for the Work Experience Program. 

This program is for youth 14 and older and adults. Work experiences are a planned, structured, short-term learning experience designed to expose participants to the working world and the skills that are required for a job.

“The paid work experience is now available year around and not just during the summer,” said Geanna England, OhioMeansJobs Hardin County Workforce Development Supervisor.

The Icon photographed this farmer north of Ada applying anhydrous ammonia (NH3), which is  nitrogen in a useable form for  plants. The crop is most likely  corn. This is at least three-fourth of the total nitrogen used for this crop for this year.

Ada chamber board discusses these and other community programming

On April 7 Ada Area Chamber of Commerce board meet in person for the first time since last winter, taking action on several chamber and community-related activities.

Two programs with traditional chamber support return to the community calendar this year, following a covid-19 off year.

The Made in Ada Wilson Football Festival is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 28. The first meeting of the planning committee met this week. Watch the Icon for details as they are announced.

The chamber’s Harvest and Herb Festival will again take place, after a year off.

Former Ada HS and now ONU volleyball player named Woman Player of the Week

Ohio Northern junior and Ada High School volleyball standout Melina Woods was named the Sports Imports/AVCA Division III Woman Player of the Week for the week of April 1-7.

Woods hit .441 with 56 kills and only five errors as the Polar Bears went 3-1 last week with a sweep of Capital and a split at then-No. 12 Otterbein.

Woods is the 12th Ohio Northern player to be named the Sports Imports/AVCA Player of the Week and the first since Liz Schnelle, who was a five-time Sports Imports/AVCA Player of the Week honoree.

The Polar Bears finished their season with a 13-3 record under first-year head coach Katie Kuhn.
