An Ada High School graduation continued today as members of the 2019 class held its final walk-through of the school building. Cheering on the seniors were students who lined the hallways.

FROM BLUFFTON ICON - An armed robbery at the Bluffton Dari Freeze, 595 S. Main St., is under investigation by Bluffton police, according to Ryan Burkholder, police chief.

The police issued the following statement on May 22:

On Tuesday, May 21, at approximately 9:06 p.m. Bluffton police officers responded to the Bluffton Dari Freeze for a reported armed robbery that had just occurred.

Upon arrival, officers learned that two male suspects had entered the business and brandished a firearm and demanded money.

Both suspects were described as wearing hoodies with the hoods covering their heads and faces.

Justina Fuqua-Black of Ada, earned a bachelor’s degree in social work during Bluffton University’s 119th annual commencement ceremony on May 5.

Blake Obenour of Dunkirk, earned a bachelor’s degree in business
administration.

Jacob Sherrick of Harrod, earned a bachelor’s degree in mathematics.

2 retired Bluffton police chiefs have Ada connections

FROM BLUFFTON ICON - Two Bluffton persons with Ada connections were recognized this month by the Bluffton police department.

The two are retired Bluffton police chiefs, Rick Skilliter, husband of Ada school superintendent, Meri Skilliter, and the late William Gaiffe, whose daughter is Pat Wyss, and grandsons are Todd Wyss and Sam Kragalott of Ada.

Skilliter and Gaiffe are the first inductees to a Wall of Honor, recognizing retired Bluffton police officers.

Bluffton police chief Chief Ryan Burkholder read the following about the two 2019 inductees:

Sophomore Vinh Thai (Galloway/St. Charles) was dubbed the 2019 Ohio Athletic Conference Player of the Year while four individuals garnered All-OAC honors for the 2018-19 men's tennis season, the league office announced Wednesday morning.

Thai and freshman Noah Elliott (Hilliard/Davidson) both received top-billing from the league's head coaches, earning First-Team All-OAC honors this season. In addition, sophomore Hoang Do (Powell/Olentangy Liberty) registered Second-Team All-OAC honors, and freshman Zach Beaschler (Ada) was named to the Honorable Mention squad.
