Laurell Elizabeth Hall-Frazier, 84, of Carey, died Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2017, at 7:48 a.m. at Bridge Hospice Care Center, Findlay.

She was born July 30, 1933, in Carey, Ohio, to the late Anna Margaret (Pipes) and Joseph Ferdinand Dible, Sr.

On Jan. 22, 1952, she married James Irwin Hall. They divorced. They had six children, Thomas Daniel (Janet Collins) Hall, Kristine Kay (Gary) Jones, James Irwin (Valerie Rex) Hall, Jr., Jeffrey Alan (Debbie Southward) Hall, John Karl (Autum Rukes) Hall and Mary Elizabeth (Friend Bob Baker) Hall.

Dr. Scott Gerber, ONU professor of law, writes about the #MeToo movement in his latest op-ed for "The Daily Caller," which is a conservative opinion and news website in Washington, D.C.

In "Men and #MeToo in the workplace," Gerber encourages men to report misconduct they witness.

ONU Professor Emeritus of English Claude “Bud” Smith had an article, “Touching Genius: John Updike's Odd Obsession,” published in the anthology John Updike Remembered, edited by Jack A. DeBellis (McFarland, 2017).

The piece details Updike’s visit to ONU and the short story he later wrote called “The Football Factory,” inspired by a tour of the Wilson Sporting Goods football factory.

Prof. Smith makes a cameo appearance in that story, which was included in Updike’s book "Love Factories."

The Ohio Northern women's basketball team is ranked No. 14 in the fourth weekly D3Hoops.com coaches poll after jumping one spot in the poll released. After falling in its season-opener, the Polar Bears (8-1 overall, 4-0 OAC) have won eight straight.

Four members of the Ohio Northern men's soccer team have been named Academic All-Ohio by the Ohio Collegiate Soccer Association for the 2017 season.

Seniors J.J. Fortner (Maumee/Anthony Wayne), Chris Garbig (Wilder, Ky./Highlands), Cory Lains (Zionsville, Ind.) and Mac Tompkins (Fairview, Pa.) all earned the honor.

Fortner, a Pharmaceutical and Health Care Business major, was named First Team Academic All-Ohio and earned his first career Academic All-Ohio honor.

The senior is also a 2-time Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference honoree.

Seniors Hannah Reich (Howell, Mich.) and Anna Niemeyer (Loveland) and junior Sarah Puntel (Strongsville) all were named Academic All-Ohio by the Ohio Collegiate Soccer Association on Wednesday afternoon.

Reich and Niemeyer were each named First Team Academic All-Ohio, while Puntel was dubbed a Second Team Academic All-Ohio honoree.

Reich, an Athletic Training major, was named Academic All-Ohio for the first time in her career.

The senior earned the honor after being tabbed a First Team Scholar All-American by the United Soccer Coaches this season.
