Apparent electrical malfunction at Beatitudes, but no serious damage
Ada’s newest fire truck was called into action for the first time today as an apparent electrical malfunction in the Beatitudes building, 210 N. Main St., put a scare into Main Street.
Ada-Liberty Township fire department received the call at 1:03 p.m.
According to Deb Curlis, Beatitudes store manager, in the building at the time told The Icon, “There were no flames and no smoke coming out of the roof, but it appeared that some smoke was coming from some of the ceiling tiles inside the building.”
Curlis said that she along with one customer and three Beatitude volunteers were in the building at the time.
She immediate told everyone to leave the building once it was determined that there was a problem.
“I immediately turned off all the switches and the power to the building,” she said. Ada police were the first responders to the scene.
As Main Street was blocked off from Highland to Buckeye, Curlis said that fire departments from Ada, Kenton, Dunkirk and LaFayette were soon on the scene. In addition the Ada EMS was called.
The smell of something hot remained in the building throughout the day. Several ceiling tiles were broken as fire fighters looked for a cause.
“Despite from the burning smell, it appears that we are in good shape,” said Curlis.
She added that on Thursday the staff will get some fans in the building to help clear out the burned electrical smell. She said that if everything checks out Beatitudes may reopen in the afternoon.
