Have you heard about the Teal Pumpkin Project?

It involves offering non-food treats for kids with food allergies (or other health concerns) during trick-or-treating this year.

Please encourage others to do the same to make Halloween fun for everyone.

More information about the national project is available at: http://www.foodallergy.org/teal-pumpkin-project#.VhV10ytbjsA

The Bluffton Blaze of Lights parade, planned for Saturday, Nov. 28, is inviting area groups to join the parade.

This year’s Blaze, sponsored by the Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce takes place on Saturday, Nov. 28, in downtown Bluffton.

This year’s Blaze theme is “A Christmas from the Past.”

Earlier this month over 40 units were already registered for the parade, according to Junior Weihrauch, parade director.

Last year, for the first time ever, the parade topped 100 units. The Blaze planners hope to continue that parade size this year, making it one of the largest small-town parades in northwestern Ohio. Last year’s parade lasted one hour.

It's October. Want a good scare or two? Ada Public Library can help.

Two library events this month offer interesting information and potential spooky stories. Here goes:

• On Saturday, Oct. 17, at 11 a.m. join the library for a "Secrets of the Ohio State Reformatory" program. A volunteer from the Reformatory will share some spooky stories about the former prison.

• On Saturday, Oct. 31, at 11 a.m. members of the Ohio Researchers of Banded Spirits (ORBS) will present a program of their experiences investigating the paranormal.

Both events are free and open to the public.

The Icon supports the 0.5 mil renewal levy of the Mental Health and Recovery Services Board of Allen, Auglaize and Hardin Counties. The levy is on the Nov. 3 ballot. If approved it will continue to support this agency’s current expenses for the next 10 years.

For 40 years, voters have approved this 0.5 mil levy, which supports basic mental health and alcohol and drug treatment for adults and children.

This renewal levy is not a new tax and ensures that these vial services for children, families and adults continue in our community.
