Ada's latest news

Zohie Dysert's clever tree poster includes a familiar town name

The ONU Department of Art and Design recently held a week-long, intensive design camp for high school artists.

This year's theme was urban forests, something the Ada Tree Commission was glad to see and something any tree lover would support.

Zohie Dysert of Ada was among the campers, who all came up with dramatic posters. A few examples are posted below, including the one by Zohie.

The campers explored the fundamentals of visual communication. The program called on the artists and designers to make a powerful visual statement about trees to be put on banners.

Not all cactus grow in Arizona, some are hardy, as shown in this photo taken on the first day of summer at the Pilger home in the 400 block of North Gilbert Street. The many bright yellow blooms of a cactus plant are from a start that was given to Bob Pilger 20 years ago. The starts have since spread and provide a mass of color by the front door this time of year.

Did you say an eight-family yard sale?

Story and photos by Monty Siekerman
The 8-family yard sale in the 700 block of South Johnson was doing a land office business on Saturday morning...maybe that's because the sale was advertised FREE in the Ada Icon.

Yard sales are popular in small towns: trying to find the oddball thing you want, getting a big bargain, or simply saying "Hi" to neighbors.

When it rained all day on Friday, the mounted posse didn't make the scene at War Memorial Park because it would be unpleasant for youngsters to see the big horses outside in the inclement weather.

Never fear, the children were overjoyed to see the substitute, two miniature horses brought to Ada by the Hardin County Sheriff's Mounted Unit.
