Earlier contest features Michigan and Virginia teams

The tournament continues this weekend at ONU.

Ohio Northern hosts the NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Tournament Sectionals this weekend. Admission is $7 for adults and $5 for ONU students, seniors and children.

Here's the schedule:
• 5:30 p.m. - Friday, March 10
Hope (Michigan) vs. Christopher Newport (Virginia)

• 7:30 p.m. - Friday, March 10
Ohio Northern University vs. Geneseo State (New York)
8 p.m. - Saturday, March 11

• Title game - winner advances to Division III Final 4

The Final Four contests are March 17-18 at Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Mich.

Was among founders of Ada Railroad Park

Arlene L. Crozier, 93, died on Wednesday, March 8, 2017 at 9:37 a.m. at Vancrest of Ada.

She was born on Jan. 16, 1924 in Ada, Ohio, to Fred H. and Edna E. (Packer) Wyss who preceded her in death. On July 17, 1942 Arlene married Howard L. Crozier and he preceded her in death on Sept. 2, 2005 after 63 years of marriage.

Terry Keiser, director of sustainability at Ohio Northern, received the 2017 Herbert Osborn Award presented by the Ohio Biological Survey. Keiser is being recognized for his exceptional contribution to the scientific advancement of knowledge concerning the occurrence, distribution, taxonomy, and/or ecology of the flora and/or fauna of Ohio. 

The award was presented to Keiser at the recent Ohio Natural History Conference at the Ohio History Center in Columbus.

COLUMBUS - Ada junior wrestler Chase Sumner won his first round match in the 138 lb. bracket at the Div. III state meet Thursday in Columbus at the Schottenstein Center.

Sumner is now 39-3 this season after winning his lone match of the day. 

Sumner started out in the 16-man draw as a three seed against sophomore Billy Luft, a sophomore from Newark Catholic who came in as the two seed from the Coshocton district with a 37-7 record.

Sumner pinned Luft at 1:10 to advance to the quarterfinals against Gavin Stilke, the top seed in that quarter of the draw. 

James Clark, Jr., age 93, died Friday, March 10, 2017 at 4:03am at Richland Manor Nursing Home, Bluffton.

He was born on December 21, 1923 in Alger, Ohio to James and Kitty (Davis) Clark, Sr. who preceded him in death. On April 5, 1942 James married Alice M. Rex and she survives in Harrod.

James retired from Ford Motor Company of Lima. He previously was a teacher and coach at Harrod Schools. He was a graduate of Ohio Northern University, Ada. James was a U.S. Army Veteran who served as a combat engineer during WWII. He was a life member of the Lima VFW Post #1275.
