Here's what goes into a wheat harvest

Provided by Mark Badertscher, Hardin extension office
If you aren't a farmer, but have always wondered about all the things that go into a crop harvest, this article will provide many of your answers.

Farmers will be harvesting wheat in the next few weeks, seeing the outcome of what they planted nine months ago.

However, farmers are already taking steps to prepare for the harvest, such as cleaning storage facilities and checking harvesting equipment.

Most farmers in the area will take their wheat directly to the commercial grain elevator soon after harvest.  They generally save their private grain bins for corn storage.

Kenton Hardin Health Department is reporting 6 new covid-19 confirmed cases at this time. Also reporting are 5 recoveries, and 1 negative test result.

Here's the Hardin sheriff's log for July 6-7.

Belongs to Sophie and Russ Crawford with assistance from Tristan Seitanakis, their grandson

This week's Ada Icon Veggie Garden of the Week belongs to Sophie and Russ Crawford and their grandson, Tristan Seitanakis.

Recent events prompted the Crawfords, who live on North Main Street, Ada, to plant their garden, not only as a way to raise vegetables for eating, but also to help educate their 6-year old grandson on the importance and rewards of gardening.

While Tristan enjoyed the construction and planting phases, the Crawfords admit that weeding and tending to the plants doesn't seem to have the same appeal to their grandson. Some things never change.
