Polar Plunge returns to Ada campus
They really did it. On February 19, Ohio Northern University’s Delta Sigma Phi fraternity members took the Polar Plunge in the icy waters of Lake Neiheiser near fraternity circle. Participants paid a minimum of $5 to take the jump or sponsored a brother to take the plunge. Funds raised will benefit the Alzheimer’s Association.
Ohio Northern University notes, "Participants were required to observe safety protocols. There was a spotter in the water at all times in case of an emergency and to help jumpers out of the water. EMS was on stand-by during the entire event. Non-slip mats were placed near the water hole to increase safety for people entering and exiting. Jumpers entered feet first and submerged themselves in the pond, then immediately exited and headed to the heating tent equipped with propane heaters, where hot drinks were provided."
The event took place on a day when temperatures ranged from 14 to 23 degrees F, with brisk winds. There was no Polar Plunge in 2021.
