Bulldogs wrestlers compete at Hardin County tri-match
By Cort Reynolds
KENTON__The Ada High School wrestling team split a triangular match at Kenton with Riverdale Tuesday evening, December 19.
The Bulldogs beat the Falcons 33-15 but lost to the host Wildcats, 45-18.
Sophomore Silas Riblet won by pin vs. Riverdale and via forfeit vs. Kenton at 113 lbs.
Senior Clayton McClain wrestled up a weight class and won at 165 lbs. 8-6 vs. Falcon Kydin Reed.
“Wyatt (Fisher) is so close to breaking through and getting his first win,” said Ada head coach Eric Perkins. “He fought through an injury tonight, and had a couple moments where it looked like he was going to win by pin.”
Fisher lost by pin at 1:46 to Kenton and by a 7-4 decision against the Falcons in the 138 lbs. division.
McClain lost a 7-4 decision to Kenton ace Anthony Hunt at 165 lbs.
“Clayton wrestled up a weight class or two from his usual spot in our lineup,” Perkins explained. “We asked him to leave his comfort zone and wrestle two really tough matches.
“He embraced that challenge, splitting his two tonight,” he continued. “He has some big goals for this season he is trying to accomplish and he knows the only way to get there is through hard work and testing himself.
“There are some things to work on, some places he can improve and refine his approach to take that next step,” Perkins added.
Liam Vieira (150) and Kale Pedersen (144) recorded two wins by forfeit. Landon Simon (215) and Layne Simon (157) also won by forfeit vs. Riverdale.
The AHS wrestling team is back in action January 5-6 at the Woodmore Invitational.
