Prolific children’s author Troy Cummings talks with second graders in the library at Ada Schools on Monday.
Cummings has had a part in writing, and sometimes illustrating, 32 books. He is currently on a tour of northwest Ohio schools. The Greencastle, Ind.-based writer spoke with Ada children in grades 1-5.
The students have read several of his books and worked on art projects that correlate with Cumming’s books.

Hans Strayer accepted a plaque on behalf of his father, Herb, on Saturday when Herb was inducted posthumously into the Hardin County Sports Hall of Fame. Several family members attended including Herb’s wife, Susan (pictured). The induction took place at a banquet at USV High School.
Other awardees were Dale Dirmeyer, Zach Dysert, Bill Peterson, Mike Risner, Roger Schroer, and the 1984 Hardin Northern volleyball team, which the Ada Icon will report on tomorrow.
ONU junior Caleb Thomas (Strongsville) has been named to the Google Cloud First Team Academic All-District 7 Team by the College Sports Information Directors of America for his efforts on the field and in the classroom this season.
Thomas was the lone Polar Bear on the list and earned the honor for the first time in his career.
The all-district team recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom.
The Ada VFW Ream McElroy Post 9381 held its second annual “Tee up for a Vet” Golf Scramble at the Colonial Golfer’s Club on Saturday. It turned out to be a beautiful day as 13 teams teed off at 10 a.m.
Along with many other golfer’s games along the way, on Hole # 4, we had a competition for a hole-in-one. Tommy Tire of Ada provided a truck as the prize.
Sad to say, no one won the truck.
The team of Austin Oglesbee, Ryan Risner, Jeremy Wilson, and Troy Hunsicker won the first place prize of $300 with a round of 60.
Six athletes from the Ohio Northern baseball team have been named All-Ohio Athletic Conference for their efforts during the 2018 season.
Juniors Luke Klinehoffer (Zanesville/John Glenn) and Caleb Thomas (Strongsville) and sophomore Josh Mohr (Oregon/Clay) were each named First Team All-OAC, while senior Hayden Shenefield (Powell/Worthington Kilbourne) and junior Austin Frey (Peoria, Az./Sunrise Mountain) were named Second Team All-OAC and sophomore Nate Bye(Thorntown, Ind./Western Boone) garnered Honorable Mention All-OAC honors.
