Music from Tau Beta Sigma and Kappa Kappa Psi, the honorary band fraternity and sorority

By Monty Siekerman
It was a hip hoppin’, jive jumpin’ time at the Railroad Park Friday evening when ONU instrumentalists played an informal concert for all of those who gathered or were drawn in by the music.

Members of Tau Beta Sigma and Kappa Kappa Psi, the honorary band fraternity and sorority, traditionally gather in the park to entertain Adaites the Friday before commencement.

The lively music always begins with the ONU Fight Song. And, it’s a time for longtime Band Director Charles Bates to hand off the baton to students to lead the 30-piece band that evening.

NOTRE DAME, Ind. — Senior Kirsten Lightel (Tallmadge) threw a 6-hit shutout to lead the Ohio Northern softball team to a 1-0 victory over Case Western Reserve in the first game of the NCAA III Softball Notre Dame, Indiana Regional Tournament on a chilly Friday afternoon at the Purcell Athletic Fields.

The Polar Bears (31-9 overall) advance in the winner's bracket on Saturday at 11 am and will face No. 19-ranked Saint Mary's (Ind.), who defeated Mount Aloysius (Pa.) 6-1 in Friday's second game.

WESTERVILLE -- The Ohio Northern baseball team dropped a hard-fought 2-0 decision to No. 25-ranked Marietta and bowed out of the 2018 Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament on Friday afternoon at Fishbaugh Field.

The Polar Bears fall to 27-15 overall, while the Pioneers improve to 27-15.

Bring a lawn chair, sit back and enjoy the outdoor conocert

Traditionally, the ONU Jazz Band plays music in Railroad Park the Friday before commencement. This year the instrumentals will give a casual performance from 5-7 p.m. Bring a lawn chair, sit back, and enjoy the outdoor concert.
