Bulldog girls soccer takes loss at Miller City
By Cort Reynolds
MILLER CITY – The visiting Ada High School girls soccer team lost 4-0 at Miller City in a tough final regular season game on Thursday night, October 10.
The Bulldogs dropped to 10-7 with the defeat that snapped a four-match win streak.
Playing in the rugged Putnam County League, MC improved to 11-3-2 after the shutout win.
The Wildcat girls grabbed an early lead and rolled to the win.
“We had a slow start, dug a hole and really did not create any offense until the second half,” said Ada head coach Doug Dewese.
“Miller City is a good team and these games right before tournaments really stink,” he noted. “You want to compete but to be honest, you are more worried about making sure you stay healthy for tournaments.
“We already had some nagging injuries that I was trying to protect somewhat, so it is hard to play aggressive with those kind of complications,” he explained.
“And when you try to play conservative and healthy against a team like Miller City, it can bite you.”
Ada freshman keeper Emily Gibson was credited with 23 saves in goal.
“I’d say it was closer to 26 or 27 saves,” said Dewese. “We had some scrambles in front of the net where she made a lot of hand saves that were pretty obscured from view.”
Fifth-seeded Ada plays at Northwest Conference leader and second seed Columbus Grove (13-1-2, 5-0 NWC) Tuesday, Oct. 15 in a difficult first round sectional tournament test.
Previously unbeaten Grove suffered its first loss of the season Thursday night at the hands of Kalida, 1-0.
