Bulldog girls soccer ties Grove late

ADA__The Ada High School girls soccer team rallied late to tie visiting Columbus Grove 1-1 in their annual Bulldog battle on Saturday morning, September 13 at War Memorial Stadium.

Ada is now 9-1-2 after recording their second straight 1-1 tie at home.

Defending Northwest Conference champion CG ran its record to 5-1-2 with the result.

“Emily Gibson had a rock star performance in goal, making some great saves,” said Ada head coach Doug Dewese. “She was very busy as it was the first time we were out-shot by another team.

“We also had a great game from Aliyah Kober as an outside back,” he continued. “She made two goal line, non-keeper saves for us. Chloe Hunsicker came off the bench and played the best game I have seen from her all season.

“And obviously, the Poling/Acheson combination for the tying goal was pretty awesome,” he added. “Grove is very talented with six senior starters, while we only have four seniors total.”

Neither team scored in the first half.

Grove led 1-0 late, but sophomore Avary Acheson scored with two minutes left off a Kenley Poling assist to equalize the match.

Ada sophomore keeper Emily Gibson made 18 saves in goal.

“Grove’s only loss was to powerful Ottawa-Glandorf (2-0 on Aug. 23),” noted the coach. “To play even with them and especially get the comeback goal so late shows the drive these ladies have.”

Perennial power O-G leads the Western Buckeye League at 4-0 and has won three straight league titles. The Titan girls have won 39 of their last 40 WBL matches.

Ada (0-1-1 NCOSA) resumes North Central Ohio Soccer Association play when they travel to face defending league co-champion Liberty-Benton (5-2-2, 1-0 NCOSA) in a key contest on Wednesday, Sept. 17.
