Recap of November 18 Ada Council meeting

Village of Ada prepares to host National Night Out events

By Paula Pyzik Scott

The Village of Ada Council held a regular meeting on Tuesday, November 18, with Council President Bob Simmons presiding. Mayor David Retterer was present at the meeting. The meeting packet is HERE.

RESOLUTIONS
Council established a new fund for National Night Out, allowing the Ada Police Department to receive donations and establish an Ada National Night Out event. Such events are held in many communities across the United States on the second Tuesday of August to allow first responders to connect with the communities they serve on a non-emergency basis.

ORDINANCE
Council approved the second reading of an ordinance establishing annual appropriations for 2026.

NEW BUSINESS
Council member Bob Simmons reported that he spent some time reviewing items stored on the second floor of the Pennsylvania Railroad Depot, which is owned by the Village. The second floor has been off limits for many years and has some small miscellaneous items stored there, as well as some items of potential historical interest.

Simmons suggested that representative samples of items such as Village of Ada mugs and yardsticks be saved, and that the remainder be offered to employees at the upcoming Christmas party. He has an appointment with the director of the Hardin County Historical Museum to view Pennsylvania Railroad artifacts, including crossing signs, periodicals, and a 1923-1924 list of stations. He suggested that some items could go to the private museum in Ada (owned by Leland Crouse) and most could be display at the Hardin County museum.

POLICE DEPARTMENT
Chief Alec Cooper introduced a letter from Detective Eichman and Patrolman Sturgill asking for permission to use a Village building for training in subject control and defensive tactics, as well as for the purchase of floor mats such as are used for wrestling. Council will ask Legal Counsel Jane Napier about liability waivers and any other requirements.

The Chief also reported that new emergency sirens should be installed in the first week of December.

ADMINSTRATOR

Village Administrator Amanda Sears reported that she attended the Ada Rotary as a guest speaker. She also reported that Choice One Engineering will be conducting a pavement rating in the Village and will assign every road a grade on an A to F scale to help plan road maintenance.

The meeting adjourned at about 7:06 p.m.

NEXT MEETING
The next regular meeting of Council will be held on Tuesday, December 2.
