Ada's latest news

Is there a black swallowtail butterfly in your back yard? Could be. These beauties are in season at the moment in Ada. Here's one that wasn't afraid to show off its coat. The Icon photographer went a bit overboard on additional photos in this series as you will soon see.

Ada has a long history of Main Street restaurants. Here's one of those, and we invite Icon viewers to offer additional information.

Here is the inside of the City Restaurant on North Main Street, Ada. The photo is from the collection of the Ada Public Library. We lack a year, owner and address of this one-time Ada eating establishment.

Looks like a small scale on the front counter. Could that be for weighing candy that's in the showcases? The electric light fixtures can probably be dated to the 1920s.

While at ONU she was associate editor of the Law Review

Ohio Governor Mike DeWine announced the appointment of Kristy S. Wilkin to the Fourth District Court of Appeals.

Wilkin, of Hillsboro, will assume office on Aug. 3, and must run for election on Nov. 3, for the remainder of the unexpired term ending Feb. 8, 2023.

Wilkin is replacing Judge Matthew W. McFarland who was appointed by President Trump as Judge of the U.S District Court for the Southern District of Ohio.

Wilkin is currently a partner at Peelle Law Offices Co., LPA in Hillsboro, Ohio. She has served as an adjunct professor at Southern State Community College and held a judicial externship in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Ohio.

The license plate is faded, but the vehicle is pristine. It's Win Hauenstein's 1931 two-seater Ford Model A. Perhaps you've viewed it from afar. This photo series allows you to take a closer look. We spotted the classic at last Saturday's Park in the Park.

Summer is a great time to explore the art spread across the Ada community – especially for viewers unable to visit art galleries elsewhere in Ohio.

As a weekly series, The Icon will feature the art located on The Remington Walk on the Ohio Northern University campus. For some viewers, this series is familiar. For others, it may be a first-time experience.

Either way, it’s an opportunity to take a walk and view some art that is uniquely Ada. The Walk is spread through campus and may be viewed by following the ONU walking path, beginning near Affinity Village, west of The Freed Center.
