Ada plays Ottawa-Glandorf on Friday

LIMA SHAWNEE - Visiting Ada won its first match of the tennis season 3-2 at defending Western Buckeye League co-champion Shawnee Tuesday.

The Bulldogs improved to 1-1 after the big win, while Shawnee fell to 0-1 with the loss.

Ada won all three singles matches in straight sets to prevail.

Bulldog senior Cade Mullins dropped just one game at first singles to improve to 2-0.

Junior Isaac Spar lost only two games in winning at second singles and also improved to 2-0.  

 
Ada sophomore Miranda Wills evened her record at 1-1 by winning 12 of 13 games at third singles.    

Approves agreement with Auglaize County Educational Service Center

Ada school board acted on several contracts on March 26. Some of that action follows, based on board minutes not yet approved. The complete set of unofficial minutes is attached at the  bottom of this story:

• Approved a retroactive agreement with Auglaize County Educational Service Center for curriculum services, estimated at $20,000 per year. The ESC supports programs in nine Auglaize and Hardin county schools, including Ada, Minster, New Bremen, New Knoxville, Ridgemont, St. Marys, Wapakoneta, Waynesfield-Goshen and Auglaize County Educational Academy.

The Ohio Northern men's lacrosse team opened the Ohio Athletic Conference portion of its 2019 schedule with a record-setting performance in a 26-2 victory over Wilmington on Saturday afternoon at Dial-Roberson Stadium.

The Polar Bears (7-1 overall, 1-0 OAC) set school records with their 26 goals and the 24-goal margin of victory, surpassing the previous records set in a 25-3 win in the 2018 season opener against Calvin (Mich.)

Dennis L. Arnold, 76, died on Wednesday, March 27, 2019, at 1:35 a.m., at the Mennonite Memorial Home, Bluffton.

 He was born on May 28, 1942, in Lima, Ohio, to Francis D. and Betty (Wise) Arnold and they preceded him in death. On Aug. 29, 1964, Dennis married Judith “Judy” Schenkemeyer and she survives in LaFayette.

Dennis retired in 2003 as a machinist from Ford Motor Company after 30 years. He was a member of the Hog Creek Game Club and the LaFayette Historical Society.  Dennis was a life member of the Tri State Gun Club and the National Rifle Association.  He was a member of the UAW Local #1219 of Lima.
