What is Nh...glad you asked. It is nihonium. What is that?

It's one of the four new elements added to the periodic table this year. Members of Gamna Sigma Epsilon chemistry honorary and the American Chemical Society carved the letters of the new elements into pumpkins on Monday at the Mathile Center.

"Hey, Mom, Dad, I made the honor roll!"

Roatarians raise a flag

Ada Rotarians, with the assistance of Mayor Dave Retterer, raised a flag at the Railroad Park on Tuesday in commemoration of World Polio Day. Holding the flag are Rotarians Jamie Hall (left) and Bob Ward. David Quammen, an author who lives in Montana, spoke at the club meeting prior to the flag raising.

ONU is calling all Halloweeners on Tuesday

Registration starts 5 p.m. in McIntosh

The annual trick or treat event at Ohio Northern will begin with registration at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 24 in the McIntosh Center activities room. ONU students will then lead the youngsters through residence halls beginning at 5:15 p.m. 

The event will also include dinner at 6 p.m. in the McIntosh Center ballroom and a costume contest and raffle at 6:30 p.m. before wrapping up at approximately 7 p.m.

 The event, which is open to area children, is free and open to the public. Children of all ages are encouraged to dress up and join the fun. All children must be accompanied by an adult to attend the festivities. The outing is presented by ONU’s office of residence life.

Bulldog Woods District 8 Player of the Year

And, Melissa Gossard named District 8 Coach of the Year

Ada senior middle Melina Woods added to her awards when she was recently voted Division IV District 8 Volleyball Player of the Year.

Woods led Ada to its third straight Northwest Conference title and then won her third NWC volleyball Player of the Year award. She has led the Lady Bulldogs into the district semifinals with a 16-7 record.

Behind Woods, Ada clinched its second straight outright and undefeated (8-0) title this season and third consecutive championship overall, including a shared NWC crown in 2015.

Ada's Peace Officer K9 Team officially certified

Ada Police Sgt. Matt Purdy and K9 Oakley were certified on Friday as an Ohio Peace Officer K9 Team.

K9 Oakley was brought on due to the accidental death of K9 Jaeger earlier this year.  

"Today we remember K9 Jaeger and thank him for his service, while we welcome K9 Oakley and look forward to a long life of service to the Village of Ada," said Police Chief Michael Harnishfeger.

K9 Oakley is a 3- year old female German Shephard who will serve as a Patrol/Special Service K9.
