Ada Icon accepted into membership of Local Independent Online News Publishers

The Ada Icon and Bluffton Icon were accepted into membership this week of LION Publishers (Local Independent Online News Publishers).

This is the second online association that the Icons are members. The Icons also belong to the Online News Association (ONA).

Tuma and Corbean lead six Polar Bears named All-OAC in Women's Tennis

Junior Michelle Tuma and freshmanChristina Corbean were named First Team All-OAC in women's tennis, in voting conducted by the league's 10 head coaches.

In addition, freshman Meghan Letizia and sophomore Brittany Miller were named Second Team All-OAC and freshmanRachael Miller and Taryn Stromback both earned Honorable Mention All-OAC accolades.

Tuma earns her third consecutive First Team All-OAC honor.

This season, she posted 43 wins and won her 100th career victory on April 13 against Mount Union.

Corbean posted 17 singles wins this season and also 32 overall victories.

Five named All-OAC in Men's Tennis; Rohan named OAC Coach of the Year

Five member of the Ohio Northern men's tennis team were named All-OAC in voting done by the league's head coaches.

Senior Joey Frank and junior Do Thaiearned First Team All-OAC status, juniorJosh Saunders was named Second Team All-OAC and freshman John Mostowy and junior Blake Troller both earned Honorable Mention All-OAC status.

In addition, head coach Bob Rohan was named OAC Coach of the Year for the third time.

Frank earns his fourth straight First Team All-OAC honor, after going 37-17 on the season, including a 15-3 mark in OAC play.

Football rolls to 43-0 victory over University College Dublin All-Star team in International Friendly

Ohio Northern rolled to a 43-0 victory in an "American Football International Friendly" over the Univerisity College Dublin All-Stars on Wednesday evening on the UCD campus.

The Polar Bears improve to 3-0 in international competition after winning 77-0 in Germany in 2007 and 63-6 in Italy in 2010.

The UCD squad consisted of a composition of players from several area teams from the major american football league in Ireland, NFL-Ireland. The teams played 12 miniutes quarters and the offense could opt for a 40-yard automatic punt on fourth down, if desired.

Mike Styer has a bicycle built for you - proceeds go to Relay for Life

“I can’t do a lot, but I can do this and I enjoy it.”

That’s how Mike Styer, who has taught Ada junior high social studies for 14 years, sums up his bike fix-up hobby that sends all its proceeds to the Hardin County Relay for Life.

Styer’s father died as a result of cancer in 2008. After his father’s death, the Ada teacher decided to get into better physical shape. To make a long story short he began entering triathlons.  In those endurance events competitors swim, bike and run.

Ada elementary student Kiersten Cortez created a "crayon fish" on exhibit on the art wall of Ada schools. Its one of several fish in the "art school."
