Allen Historical Society offers Sept. 22 'Riding the Rails" excursion

TICKET ORDER FORMS ON BOTTOM OF STORY

The Allen County Historical Society's "Riding the Rails" train excursion is planned Sunday, Sept. 22. The passenger train wll be pulled by former Nickel Plate Road diesel 901, repainted as 902.

The trip covers 42 miles round trip on the Genesee and Wyoming Road, courtesy of the Cincinnati Railway Co. Four coach cars will be pulled by 902.

Three excursions are planned with departure times at 10 a.m., 12:30 p.m. and 3 p.m. The round trips are from Lincoln Park, Lima, to Jackson Center and return.

Who Am I?

• I graduated from Ada in 1991.

• I competed in track and soccer in high school, I swam for one year and won the Coach's Award for that year.

• I like to run and have competed in two full marathons and two half marathons.

• I am starting my third season as a volunteer coach for a certain sport at Ada High School.

• I usually get invited to weddings for the sole purpose of entertaining the guests with my mad dancing skills.

• I am a St. Louis Cardinals fan and got to attend Game 6 of the 2011 World Series.

In 1935, the U.S. Treasury Department's Section of Fine Arts sponsored an artist juried contest to help find artists for federal jobs. The Section of Fine Arts was all a part of the Work Progress Administration, better known as the WPA.

70 Ada and area youth improve their swimming skills

Seventy Ada youth improved their swimming skills thanks to a nine-day Red Cross swimming course at the Ada pool, according to Saundra Neely, American Red Cross water safety instructor.

During the lessons 36 volunteers assisted, giving in excess of 311 hours of their time for Ada youth to become safer in and around water. Some helpers were in the water, while others worked on deck and some did both.

Zac Dysert on SportsTalk live from El Campo Mexican Restaurant on Friday

Zac Dysert will be featured on Vince Koza's live radio show, broadcast from downtown Ada on Friday. The show will be broadcast from El Campo Mexican Restaurant, 204 N. Main St. from 5 to 7 p.m.

Dysert will be the guest on SportsTalk on 93.1 FM The Fan Sports Radio.

The Ada High School and Miami football standout was drafted by the Denver Broncos this spring. He will report to Bronco training camp on Monday.
