Ada Relay for Life community meet and greet Feb. 5

The ONU Relay for Life Committee is having a Community Meet and Greet on Feb. 5th at Northern on Main from 4 p.m.-7 pm.  Relay for Life is the main volunteer-driven cancer fundraising event of the American Cancer Society.

"This is a chance for anyone - students, faculty and community members - to come learn about Relay, ask questions or become involved." said Lauren Stahl, publicity chair of the committee.

"We really want the community to feel involved in this year's Relay. It's not just a campus event." she added. 

So far seven teams and 21 participants have signed up for the Relay. The teams are:

Joanna Snyder named to the Capital One Academic All-District 7 team

Senior Joanna Snyder has been named to the Capital One Academic All-District 7 team for women's basketball in voting done by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Snyder, who has a double major in mathematics and education, will now move on to the national ballot for Academic All-America.

This season, she has started in all 20 contests and ranks second on the team in scoring at 13.8 ppg and in rebounding at 6.2 rpg.

The Capital One Academic All-District teams recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their performance on the floor and in the classroom.

Lucille Hubbell was ONU Alpha Sigma Phi fraternity house mother for 32 years

Lucille Hubbell, 96, died at 9 a.m. Jan. 27, 2013, at Richland Manor Nursing Home, Bluffton.

She was born July 30, 1916, in Ada to Fredrick and Edna Morman Firestone, who preceded her in death. In September 1932, she married John E. Hubbell, who died in August 1962.

Mrs. Hubbell had been a housemother and cook for Alpha Sigma Phi fraternity at Ohio Northern University, Ada, for 32 years.

Survivors include three sons, Tom (Janet) Hubbell, of Ada, Larry Hubbell, of Lakeview, and Fred (Sharon) Hubbell, of Alger; a daughter, Nancy Wagner, of Lima; a sister, Joan (Wes) Broseke, of Kenton; and 12 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren.

Ada Kiwanis satellite club first meeting Feb. 13

Myrna McCurdy called the 15th meeting of the 2012–2013 Ada Kiwanis year to order 12 p.m. at McIntosh Center, ONU.

McCurdy also offered the invocation.

The membership anniversaries of Scott Wills (1/28/04), Joe Ferguson (1/28/04), Marilyn Green (2/1/93) and Peter Previte (2/1/11) were noted.

It was reported that Bryan Marshall’s daughter Meredith earned a spot in the district Science Fair. Myrna and Bob McCurdy noted that their son, Chris, was recently interviewed by NPR.

ONU women host annual "Hoops for a Cure" Feb. 6

The Ohio Northern women's basketball team will host its annual "Hoops for a Cure" game on Wednesday, Feb. 6, against Heidelberg at 7:30 p.m. at the ONU Sports Center.

The No. 6-ranked Polar Bears will hold a bake sale and raffle off assorted gift baskets with all proceeds benefiting charity.

Northern will also wear pink warmups throughout the evening.

Ohio Northern has a school record 18-game winning streak and stands at 19-1 on the season and is a perfect 13-0 in Ohio Athletic Conference play.
