The Ada-Liberty Township Joint EMS squad is familiar with busy years. The Icon reported in 2019 that the department received 527 calls. Fast forward to 2021: The department had calls for 626 runs, with 80 calls in December alone, the most 911 calls in a single month in the department's history.
Tom Miller, EMS chief, reported these stats at the January 17 meeting of the ambulance board, which is composed of Jeff Acheson, representing Liberty Township; Shelia Coressel, representing the Village of Ada, and Terry Keiser, member at large. The board meets on the third Monday of each month at 5:30 p.m. in the station on Gilbert Street.
In a followup interview, Miller broke down the 911 calls by type, noting that crews sometimes find an incident involves issues not initially reported to dispatchers:
As part of an ongoing theft investigation by the Hardin County Sheriff’s Office and Hardin County Crime Task Force, a search warrant was executed on Wednesday January 19 at 102 Park St. in the Village of Alger.
The search resulted in the recovery of stolen tools, mowers, trailers, and power equipment. A 48-year-old male resident at the address Tobias Philipps, was taken into custody and lodged at the Multi County Correctional Center. The matter remains under investigation. Officers were assisted at the scene by Minich’s Towing.
The Ada, Ohio police sought assistance from the public to identify a white male shoplifting suspect on December 7--by posting a security camera video on Facebook and noting the suspect's vehicle color and make, as well as other identifying features.
Later that same day, Police Chief Michael Harnishfeger reported to village council that the suspect had been identified thanks to the response of social media followers.
