Todd James: “We’re deeply saddened for those who were impacted by this fire”

The American Red Cross North Central Ohio Chapter responded to a fire on County Road 35 near Alger on Thursday.

The Red Cross provided assistance for the immediate needs of those affected, such as temporary lodging, food and clothing.

“We’re deeply saddened for those who were impacted by this fire,” said Todd James, Executive Director, North Central Ohio Chapter.

“As we continue to help them, we urge everyone to take steps to minimize the risk of a fire occurring in their home.”

County Road 15 bridge rehabilitation in process

In late March, The Icon visited the bridge project that crosses Hog Creek on Hardin County Road 15, west of Ada. Here’s a one month progress report.

The bridge is closed until mid-June while undergoing rehabilitation, according to the Hardin County engineer’s office.

The project, estimated at $220,314, includes work handled by the county and U.S. Bridge of Cambridge. A portion of the cost is covered by a grant from the Ohio Public Works Commission. The U.S. Bridge portion of the project is estimated at $170,314 and the county's share is $50,000.

District 1 seeking to fill multiple positions in eight counties

The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) District 1 will hold two application workshop events in Lima to assist job seekers in applying for the organization’s open positions.

The workshops are to be held:

  • Wednesday, April 24, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Bradfield Community Center, 550 S. Collett Street in Lima
  • Tuesday, May 7, from 2 to 4 p.m. at OhioMeansJobs Allen County, 1501 S. Dixie Highway in Lima

ODOT personnel will guide applicants through the online process to apply for apprenticeships, seasonal highway technician positions or any other openings in Allen, Defiance, Hancock, Hardin, Paulding, Putnam, Van Wert and Wyandot counties.

Ada’s Community Improvement Corp. (CIC) will hold its quarterly meeting on Wednesday.

The meeting, in the Dean’s Heritage Room in McIntosh, takes place at noon, according to Eileen Peterman, CIC treasurer.

A discussion of the Lincoln Highway BuyWay sale is part of the agenda, in addition to other items.
