The hope to fix chemical problems at the Ada Municipal Swimming Pool didn't work out today (Wednesday, July 10).

It was hoped that the pool would open at 4 p.m., but that won't happen now.

The message from the pool Facebook follows: "We will be closed all day. We are sorry! Hopefully tomorrow will be better but stay tuned for any updates!"

Moved to King-Horn Field House due to weather concerns

The Patriotic Pops Concert, featuring the Lima Symphony Concert, at Ohio Northern University at 7 p.m. on Saturday, July 6, will be moved indoors, to the ONU King-Horn Field House, due to the threat of thunderstorms.

The concert is free and open to the public.

Attendees are encouraged to arrive early and bring lawn chairs, blankets and favorite picnic foods. This fun-filled family event will feature patriotic music, selections from musicals and other stage and film productions, popular tunes and a tribute to our armed forces.

Tickets available for Ada Rotary Club's second annual picnic

The Ada Rotary Club is taking reservations for its second annual picnic prior to the patriotic pops concert on Saturday.

The picnic is from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., Saturday, July 6, at The Inn at ONU. Reservations are required for the dinner at $26 per person. Rotary members have tickets.

The regional summer tradition will continue when the Lima Symphony Orchestra celebrates Independence Day with its fifth annual Patriotic Pops Concert at 7 p.m. on July 6 at Ohio Northern University.

The concert, which is free and open to the public, will be held on the sculpture mall east of McIntosh Center, between Presser and Weber halls.

Apollo Career Center will begin the 2019-20 school year with new leadership in key positions. 

Tasha Sheipline, adult education director, has been selected as the high school director, over-seeing instructional and supervisory staff, curriculum, discipline, and the entire high school experience for students while they attend Apollo.

Tara Shepherd, former adult education assistant director, has been promoted to director and will oversee programming, instructional and supervisory staff, curriculum, compliance and business partnerships for adults seeking training or a new career.

Entries being accepted for this year's parade on Aug. 10

Ada loves parades and here’s your chance to be part of this year’s Farmers and Merchants Picnic parade on Saturday, Aug. 10.

Becky Neville is this year’s parade chair and Tami Waller is co-chair. They provided the Icon with the following parade details plus an entry form attached at the bottom of this story.

The parade forms in the parking lot on West Lincoln Street and will begin at 9:30 a.m. Parade line-up starts one hour prior to the parade start.

Parade rules are listed in the entry form. The parade will be cancelled if lightning and thunder occurs at the beginning of the parade.
