The Saturday evening patriotic pops concert, always held near the Fourth of July, began with the Ada VFW Post 9381 Color Guard presenting the colors. The crowd stood, putting their hands over their heart, as Kirsten Osbun-Manley sang, with gusto, the "Star Spangled Banner."

Bring your own chair and enjoy the evening

The Lima Symphony Orchestra will again celebrate Independence Day with a “Patriotic Pops” concert at 7 p.m. on Saturday,  July 1 on the ONU campus.  The concert, which is free and open to the public, will be held on the sculpture mall east of McIntosh Center between Presser and Weber halls.

The fun-filled family event will feature patriotic music, movie musical selections, popular tunes and a tribute to our armed forces.

Ada working to smooth out those manhole nuisances

By Monty Siekerman
In life, everyone has "bumps in the road," some large, some small.

You do your best to contend with misfortune. Ada "bumps in the road" are being fixed this week with manholes smoothed out. Some things are fixable.

Ada saw more than the usual road repair this year with blacktop being applied in many places in town.

The manholes have become more of a nuisance for drivers since, in many cases, the blacktop is now higher than the manholes. So, workmen are in town this week to smooth out the pesky dips in the road.

A dog park is in the planning stages to be located on Ada War Memorial Park property with an entrance off of East Lehr Avenue.

The park board has agreed to set aside an area for the park, and the village government has made arrangements to give the dog park the fence around the swimming pool which will be dismantled after this swim season.

The off-leash park will have two sections, one for small dogs and one for large dogs, to socialize, exercise, and play. The dog park will include a shelter house.

Funded by two property tax levies

By Monty Siekerman
What are the Ada Park Board's plans for the money that will be generated from the two property tax levies passed last fall by the voters in Ada and Liberty Township?

Here's their current thinking, in no particular order of priority:
Replace the park truck
Get on a 5 year rotation to replace park equipment
New Gator
New fence around stadium
New lines painted on the track
