Still time to be a Festival of Trees sponsor

The 18th annual Ada Festival of Trees takes place from Sunday through Friday, Nov. 15-20, hosted by Community Health Professionals, 1200 S. Main St., Ada.

SPONSORSHIP FORM AT BOTTOM OF STORY.

Individuals, businesses and organizations are invited to participate in several ways, according to Deb Curlis.

• Decorate a tree or wreath for auction
• Make a holiday decoration for auction
• Donate an item for raffle
• Provide a tray of homemade cookies
• Volunteer as a host or hostess
• Make a monetary donation

Ada's Music Feast is more than toe-tapping...it's food, too

All the music you could eat was served all day long at the 38th annual Ada Music Booster Music Feast.

With more than 2,500 spectators, performers and volunteers, it is always a day to remember in Ada. This year's feast was Nov. 7.

Icon's roving photographer, Monty Siekerman, focused on some of the "non-music" participants. Those photos with identifications follow:

Here's details on Parent-Teacher Conferences Nov. 23-24

Ada Exempted Village School District will hold Parent-Teacher Conferences for students in grades K-12 on Monday, Nov. 23 from 4 to 8:30 p.m. and on Tuesday, Nov. 24, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. 

Students will only attend school on Monday, Nov. 23. There will not be school on Nov. 24 or 25. Thanksgiving break is Nov. 26 and 27.

Stuffed toy polar bears heading to youth in Lima Memorial Hospital

Children in the hospital will be getting a stuffed toy, thanks to those participating in a Reindeer Run on Sunday, Nov. 15. Registration begins at 2 p.m. at King Horn Center for the 5K and 1 mile run.

The stuffed toys will be polar bears, of course. They will be given to children at Lima Memorial Hospital to make their stay there a little more "bearable."

The event is sponsored by Mortar Board and Kappa Alpha Theta.

Weather report for September and October

The September and October rainfall this year was about average, but each month had an extended period of time with little or no rain--a dry spell of 17 days in September and another minidrought of 23 days in October.

According to local weather observer Phil Epley, Ada saw 2 inches of rain in September and 3 inches in October. This amount of 5 inches is only a quarter of an inch less than the historic average for the two-month period, according to Intellicast.

November begins dry and warm. Historic low and high temps for September are 28 in 1974 and 100 in 1953; for October, 18 in 1964 and 91 in 1953.
