100th Farmers' and Merchants' Picnic comes to town on Friday

The coundown is on. It's hours away. It's the 100th anniversary of the Ada Farmers and Merchants Picnic. The two-day event at the War Memorial Park takes place Friday and Saturday, Aug. 9-10.

Here’s this year’s schedule:
Friday, Aug. 9

• 5 p.m. – Gates open Party in the Back 40 – Exploit of Lima, on stage from 8 p.m. to midnight
• 7 p.m. – Corn hole tournament, Back 40, east of park
• 7 p.m. Pulls
   6500 street stock gas 4 x4
   6500 hot street gas 4x4
   6500 stock altered gas 4x4
   8000 workstock diesel
   8000 2.6 diesel
   Street legal semis
   Altered semis
   100 open

Harvest and Herb Fest' booth space, parade and queen info on The Icon

Spaces are now being reserved for the 2013 Ada Area Chamber of Commerce Harvest and Herb Festival. If you would like to reserve a booth space, contact Scott and Arlene Allison at 419-634-1144. Please leave your name and address to receive a booth application.

Attention Ada High School Girls Ages 15-18 (9th grade – 12th grade). Applications are now available for the Ada Area Chamber of Commerce Harvest & Herb Festival Queen Contest.

Last chance to swim in the Ada pool this week

This week is your final chance of the summer to dive in, go down the slide, do lap swims or simply sit in the sun at the Ada swimming pool.

The pool season sends on Saturday, Aug. 10, which coincides with the Ada Farmers and Merchants picnic. Admission on Saturday, during the picnic is $1.

The pool is open this week each day from 1 to 8 p.m., weather permitting. Daily admission (except on Aug. 10) is $3.

Adults have a final chance for lap swims on Wednesday and Friday from noon to 1 p.m. Toddler swim is also at that time. Admission is $1.

It's August and lots of Ada school information is now available. Here's the latest from the Ada school website

Aug. 5: Busing Parent Meeting
Mr. Lenhart, maintenance/transportation supervisor, will be available on Monday, Aug. 5, from 6-7:30 p.m. in the cafeteria to answer transportation questions and explain the new bus routes.  Please enter through the south doors, door 12.

50 free programs + 1,277 people = very successful summer library program

They say that it takes a village...and it does. Without the generous support of so many Ada businesses, and so many families willing to participate in Summer Reading 2013, we wouldn’t have had the successful year that we did.

Thank you to all of the businesses and individuals who made donations to be used toward our program, and for those individuals who were always willing to stop and offer assistance; because of the support of the community we were able to offer over 50 free programs in the six weeks of Summer Reading and had 1,277 people show up for our programs!
