The visiting Ada High School volleyball team won the first two sets, but dropped the last three at New Knoxville to lose a five-set heartbreaker in Div. IV sectional first round action Tuesday night, October 18.
The Lady Bulldogs won the first two close sets 25-23 and 25-22 to grab a two-game lead. But NK rallied by taking game three 25-15, then evened the match with a 25-16 win in set four.
In the decisive fifth set, the Rangers pulled away for a 15-6 win to clinch the match and advance to the second round.
Ada High School senior libero Courtney Sumner was voted second team All-Northwest Conference by the league coaches recently.
The acrobatic Sumner set the school career record for digs this season, helping Ada to an 11-12 record.
Junior Bulldog setter Autumn Andreasen was named honorable mention all-league.
Allen East junior hitter Soraya Jackson was tabbed NWC Player of the Year.
Crestview won the league crown at 8-0 as Knight mentor Tammy Gregory was voted NWC Coach of the Year. Leipsic was second (7-1), followed by AE in third (19-4, 6-2).
Ada High School seniors Brendan Jameson and Carter Conley each earned first team All-Northwest Conference boys soccer honors in voting recently conducted by the league coaches.
Jameson paced the Ada defense while Conley topped the offense.
Bulldog senior Ethan Murphy and sophomore Logan Jolliff were named second team All-NWC. Conley and Jolliff were the team's leading goal scorers.
Ada sophomore Nathan Williams was tabbed honorable mention all-league.
Senior Will Gallaspie of Spencerville was named NWC Player of the Year. Lincolnview mentor Anson Moody was voted NWC Coach of the Year.
The Ada High School girls soccer team placed four players on all-conference teams in voting recently conducted by the league coaches.
Junior Ella Marshall was named first team All-Northwest Conference and first team All-North Central Ohio Soccer Association.
Marshall set an Ada program single-season record with 16 goals, and she also passed out seven assists.
Junior Olivia Burkhart was voted second team All-NWC and second team All-NCOSA. She broke the Ada season record for most assists in a season with 13, and she also netted seven goals.
UPPER SANDUSKY--The Ada girls soccer team battled to a halftime tie, but they eventually tired and lost 5-1 at Upper Sandusky on a cold Monday evening, October 17, in Div. III sectional first round tournament action.
Seeded ninth, the Bulldog girls finished with a 5-12 record after the season-ending defeat.
The seventh-seeded Lady Rams improved to 8-5-3 with the win, and advanced to the sectional finals.
"Cold weather and tired legs from our game Saturday night did us in," said Lady Bulldog first-year head coach Doug Dewese.
Ada lost a tough 2-0 makeup match to Allen East Saturday.
