The Ohio Northern men's and women's cross country teams will open their 2021 seasons on Sept. 4 by hosting the Polar Bear Invitational on the ONU campus under 12th-year head coach Jason Maus.
This marks the first time since 2012 that the Polar Bears have opened their season with a home meet.
Northern will then run on consecutive Fridays, competing at the All-Ohio Championships at Cedarville on Sept. 17 and at the Findlay Oiler Invite on Sept. 24.
The Louisville (Ky.) Classic follows Oct. 2 and the Oberlin Rumble on Oct. 16 ends the regular season.
Icon viewers can watch Ohio Northern University alumna and assistant coach Emily Richards compete for membership on the U.S. Olympic Track and Field Team this Thursday.
Richards will be competing at the 2021 United States Olympic Trials in the 800-meter run’s first round. The race, to take place in Eugene, Oregon, will be aired June 24 at 7 p.m. PST (10 p.m. EST) on NBC.
Richards has athletically distinguished herself for years. She is a 9-time NCAA champion and 13-time All-American. To qualify for the Olympic Trials, she ran a 2:02.10 at the Stumptown Twilight Meet on June 3 in Portland, Oregon. The qualifying mark for this year’s trials in the 800 is 2:02.50.

ADA - The Ada summer swim team soundly defeated the visiting Findlay YMCA Frogs in West Ohio Aquatic League competition Thursday night.
Ada beat the visitors 622-302 in the combined boys/girls team standings to even their season record at 2-2.
The Alligator girls won over Findlay 302-159, while the Gator boys beat the Frogs by a 320-143 count. Both the Ada boys and girls teams are 2-2 in their respective dual meets this summer.
The Ohio Northern men's soccer team will open its 2021 season on Sept. 1 with a home match against Trine (Ind.) under third-year head coach Chris Matejka.
The Polar Bears will then travel north to play at Calvin (Mich.) and Hope (Mich.) Sept. 3-4.
Northern will then return home to host Concordia (Mich.) and Huntington (Ind.) Sept. 10-11 at Kerscher Stadium as part of the annual ONU Invitational.
Northern will also host Hanover (Ind.) and travel to Ohio Wesleyan, Westminster (Pa.), Carnegie Mellon (Pa.), Rose-Hulman (Ind.) and Kalamazoo (Mich.) in non-conference action.
The Ohio High School Athletic Association and Pro Football Hall of Fame on Wednesday announced a three-year agreement for the Hall to host the state football championships in Canton. The games, across Ohio’s seven divisions, will be played at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium beginning in 2021.
Pro Football Hall of Fame Chief Administrative Officer Steve Strawbridge and OHSAA Executive Director Doug Ute outlined the partnership at a news conference in the Hall of Fame’s James Allen Family Gold Jacket Lounge.
