Monday meet results attached

The Ada Gators swim team launched its season with a meet at Bluffton on Monday.

Bluffton defeated Ada 860-295. Bluffton girls’ won 387 to 183 and Bluffton boys’ won 473 to 112.

The Gators host Shawnee on Thursday, June 10, travel to Wapakoneta on Monday, June 14, and then host Findlay on Thursday, June 17.

126 student athletes named academic All-OAC

A school record 126 Ohio Northern student/athletes were named Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference in the 23 fall, winter and spring sports for 2020-21.

Five programs had 10 or more student/athletes receive the award, led by football with 15.

Baseball and women's soccer had 12 each, men's track/cross country had 11 and women's track/cross country had 10.

The award winners must be a sophomore or higher in class standing, maintain varsity status and have a cumulative grade-point-average of at least 3.50.

Junior Kristy Catrine (Springboro) was named First Team Academic All-District 7 in women's soccer by the College Sports Information Directors of America for 2020.

Catrine was named the OAC Goalkeeper of the Year, Academic All-OAC and was a Scholar Athlete by the United Soccer Coaches this season.

She allowed only one goal this season and set the ONU school record with a scoreless streak of 1,010 minutes to begin her career.

She had 31 saves, eight shutouts and a school record 0.09 GAA this season, her first as a starter.

ONU women finish 2nd, men finish 3rd

The Ohio Northern women tied for second while the Polar Bear men finished third in their respective 2020-21 Ohio Athletic Conference All-Sports Trophy races, the league office announced on Wednesday.

In the women's race, the Polar Bears compiled 63.00 points in 10 sports to tie with John Carroll for second, just 0.75 points behind first place Otterbein with 63.75 points.

Northern won league titles in soccer, golf and softball in the women's competition and had upper-division finishes in nine of the 10 sports.

The Ohio Northern men registered 69.25 points in 11 sports this year.

Hissong and Sumner compete in girls' events

TIFFIN - Two Ada track and field athletes competed in the Div. III regional meet Wednesday and Friday at Tiffin.

Liberty Center won the girls team title with 64 points, well ahead of second-place Colonel Crawford (46), and Defiance Tinora (43).

Columbus Grove captured the boys regional crown with 104 points, doubling up second place Archbold (52). Hopewell-Loudon finished third (51), while Bluffton took fourth with 50 points. 

Ada senior Brenna Hissong finished 10th in the 400 meter dash preliminary race on a hot Wednesday evening to miss qualifying for the finals Friday by two spots. 

Two outstanding Polar Bear Athletes

 Seniors Cameron Marous (Brecksville/Brecksville-Broadview Heights) and Sydney Leshnak (Cincinnati/Mount Notre Dame) were named to the NCAA Ohio Northern's Clyde Lamb Award winners for 2020-21.

Cameron Marous
Marous is a 4-time All-OAC honoree as an attacker on the men's lacrosse team, earning First Team kudos in 2016 and Second Team honors in 2018, 2019 and 2021.

He led ONU with 22 goals, 24 assists and 46 points this season.

Marous is ONU's all-time career leader with 140 goals, 110 assists and 250 points in 71 career games. He also ranks fourth-all time with 130 ground balls.
