Ada linksters look much improved in 2019

Seventh-year head coach Jason Campbell welcomes three lettermen and five experienced players back to the fold

ADA - The gradual upward climb of the building Ada boys golf program continues in 2019 with the return of several capable players to go with five newcomers.

Seventh-year head coach Jason Campbell welcomes three lettermen and five experienced players back to the fold. Senior southpaw Alex Morgan and classmate Ethan Hull return to pace the 10-man roster.

"I am excited about the talent on the team," said veteran coach Campbell. "We have a deep roster. They are a coachable group who is very capable of improving in a technical sport like golf.

Bulldog linksters 3rd in NWC quad

BLUFFTON - The Ada golf team played a tough four-team Northwest Conference match at the Bluffton Golf Course Thursday.

Co-host Bluffton won with 178 strokes, followed by Columbus Grove (193), Ada (199) and Crestview (232).

Junior Brevin Sizemore led Ada with a nine-hole score of 49.

Senior Ethan Hull registered a 50 and Ada senior lefty Alex Morgan shot a 51. Junior Jake Morgan was the fourth scorer for the Bulldogs with a score of 53.

Sophomore Kamron Wilkerson posted a 64 while sophomore Dexter Woods tallied a 73.

Bulldog golfers top Knights in opener

DELPHOS - The Ada golf team teed off its 2019 season by splitting a triangular meet Wednesday at the Delphos Country Club.

Host Delphos Jefferson won with 184 strokes, followed by Ada at 203. Crestview was third, 13 strokes behind the Bulldogs with a total of 216.

Junior Brevin Sizemore paced Ada with a score of solid nine-hole score of 46.

Senior Ethan Hull posted a 48 and sophomore Kamron Wilkerson was third for Ada with a 54. Junior Jake Morgan was the fourth scorer for the Bulldogs at 55.

Senior Alex Morgan added a 58 and sophomore southpaw Dexter Woods tallied a 67 to round out the Bulldog effort.

ONU predicted to finish in the middle of the OAC pack

The coaches liked Ohio Northern slightly better than the media Tuesday at Ohio Athletic Conference Media Day at the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton. The Polar Bears were picked to finish fourth by the conference's coaches, while the media picked ONU fifth. 

Northern garnered 52 points from the coaches vote, as national runner-up Mount Union was chosen to win the conference, reeling in 81 points and nine first-place votes. The Polar Bears collected 171 points from the media, and the Purple Raiders had 259 points and 26 first-place votes to sit atop that poll, as well.  

ONU women listed on lacrosse academic honor roll

The Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association released its Zag Sports Academic Honor Roll. Quite a few Ohio Northern student-athletes made the list.

Juniors Eli Carter (Lebanon), Ann McArn (Bay Village/Western Reserve Academy), Kayla Penrod (Marysville) and Maddie Storr (Clarence, N.Y.) were honored alongside 649 other athletes from across Division III. To be eligible for the honor roll, athletes must be a junior, senior or graduate student and possess a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher.

All four aforementioned Polar Bears performed well on the field, as well. Storr ranked second on the team with 34 goals scored to go with her team-high 16 assists.

ONU men's soccer team in Spain

The Polar Bears are currently on their sixth trip to Europe in program history and will spend 11 days and 10 nights in the Catalonia region of Spain near Barcelona and a day trip to France before returning home Aug. 12

LES PRESSES, Spain — ONU senior Timothy Hoffman  scored on a penalty kick just before halftime and junior Mitchell Colvin added a goal three minutes into the second half to lead the Ohio Northern men's soccer team to a 2-0 victory over the senior Les Presses team on a beautiful Monday evening in the volcanic area in the foothills of the Pyrenees Mountains in northern Spain.

Earlier in the evening, the Polar Bears played to a 0-0 draw against a junior Les Preses squad.
