Ohio Northern will open OAC play when Mount Union comes to the ONU Sports Center on Saturday for a 2 p.m. contest. ONU has won its last four OAC openers, including an 86-84 win at Capital last year. The Polar Bears are coming off a thrilling 65-62 victory at Thomas More (Ky.) on Wednesday.

Ohio Northern will host the 38th annual ONU Wrestling Invitational on Saturday at the ONU Sports Center Fieldhouse ... 12 schools are expected to join ONU in the tournament, which will be a flighted, double-elimination event with the standard 10 NCAA weight classes ... NCAA Division III schools Adrian (Mich.), Alma (Mich.), Heidelberg, Mount Saint Joseph, Muskingum, Ohio Wesleyan, Otterbein, Thomas More (Ky.), Trine (Ind.), Washington & Lee (Va.) and Wilmington and NCAA Division II foe Tiffin are expected to join Ohio Northern at the event.

Ada, Upper Scioto, Allen East, Waynesfield

ADA - The second annual four-team Border Battle holiday basketball tournaments will be held December 27-29 at Ada High School.

The event will feature competition between the varsity boys and girls teams from Ada, Allen East, Waynesfield-Goshen and Upper Scioto Valley.

The tournaments cover three days, and eight total games will be conducted on the following days with these matchups:

Thursday, December 27th: Girls semifinals

Varsity Girls – 6 p.m. Allen East vs. Waynesfield-Goshen

8 p.m. Ada vs. USV

Friday, December 28th: Boys semifinals

Tori Wyss: 11 rebounds and 11 points

The Ohio Northern women's basketball program upended in-state foe Case Western Reserve 71-57 Wednesday evening inside Horsburgh Gymnasium in Cleveland, Ohio, claiming their fifth successive victory to kick off the 2018-19 campaign.

The Polar Bears, who move to 5-0 overall, received 20 points from senior guard Jenna Dirksen (Beavercreek/Carroll) and double-double efforts from junior forward Emily Mescher (Maria Stein/Marion Local) and senior forward Tori Wyss (Ada) in the win.

CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky. — Freshman Daniel Unruh (Elida) nailed a 3-pointer as time expired left to snap a 62-all tie and lift the Ohio Northern men's basketball team to a 65-62 victory at Thomas More (Ky.) on Wednesday.

The Polar Bears (3-2 overall) also got a season-high 34 points and seven rebounds from senior All-American Ryan Bruns and eight points and a career-high 10 rebounds from junior Caleb Bryan in the contest.

The Saints are 3-4 now.

Senior Clayton Davidson (Kirtland) won by fall at 174 pounds to lead the Ohio Northern wrestling team in a 22-18 loss at Heidelberg on Tuesday night at Heidelberg University.

The Polar Bears fall to 0-2 overall and 0-2 in the Ohio Athletic Conference, while the Student Princes improve to 4-1, 1-0.
