After trailing 12-4 through three weight classes, the Ohio Northern wrestling program won five of the seven remaining bouts Friday evening to knock off NCAA Division III foe Manchester (Ind.) 26-21 for the first dual victory in the 2018-19 campaign.
With the win, the Polar Bears improve to 1-2 overall on the season. Meanwhile, the Spartans drop to 1-6.
The Ohio Northern women's basketball program welcomes in OAC foe Capital Saturday afternoon to round out their pre-Christmas home slate for the 2018-19 campaign. Tipoff is set for 3 pm at the ONU Sports a enter. The Polar Bears enter the contest with a 6-1 record and 1-1 mark in the OAC. Northern is fresh off a 75-67 victory over the Wilmington Quakers on Wednesday.
ADA - Rock-solid Kalida methodically wore down the Ada boys basketball team to spoil the Bulldog home opener 56-41 in a hard-fought non-league battle Friday night.
The Bulldogs fell to 0-3 with the defeat, while visiting Kalida improved to 1-1 with the win.
"Give credit to Kalida, they have a good program but I am extremely proud of our guys," said Ada head coach Dre White. "We kept it close and had chances to make it even closer; we just need to convert better on our opportunities.

BLUFFTON - Host Bluffton rolled to a 79-16 win over youthful Ada in the Northwest Conference girls basketball opener Thursday evening.
The purple and gold fell to 0-3 overall and 0-1 in the NWC with the defeat, while the Lady Pirates improved to 3-1 and 1-0 in league play after the victory.
Ada trailed 24-2 after one quarter as the Lady Pirate press bothered the visitors. The hosts extended the lead to 44-6 at halftime. Blufton outscored Ada 35-10 after intermission.
"Once again our effort was good," said first-year Bulldog head coach Morgan Bass. "We didn't give up and played hard the whole game. We are just focusing on improving."
