Ohio Northern receives preseason votes

The Ohio Northern football team received votes in the 2018 D3football.com preseason poll, released on Thursday. This marks the 15th time in the last 17 seasons that the Polar Bears have been been mentioned in a national poll.

The Polar Bears received 14 points in the poll, which is the 36th-most among the 48 schools mentioned in the poll. A year ago, Northern received 11 votes and were ranked No. 22 in the 2016 preseason D3football.com poll.

Ohio Northern went 7-3 overall and tied for second in the OAC with a 6-3 mark in 2016.

Ohio Northern University will open the 2018 fall women's golf schedule under sixth-year head coach Chad Bucci by hosting the Polar Bear Fall Classic Sept. 1-2 at Colonial Golfers Club located west of Ada.

Northern will then compete in the Defiance Fall Classic (Sept. 8-9), at Heidelberg (Sept. 15-16), the Bluffton Fall Invitational (Sept. 22-23), and in the annual OAC Fall Preview (Sept. 29-30). The spring golf schedule will be released at a later date.

In a season headlined by seven combined event conference titles, two NCAA Indoor All-Americans, an NCAA individual champion, and a pair of top-tier finishes in the OAC Indoor and Outdoor Championships, the Ohio Northern men's track and field program registered another impressive season under ninth-year head coach Jason Maus during the 2017-2018 campaign.

The Polar Bears would conclude the indoor season with a 33-17 overall record, which they followed up with a similar 36-16 finish in outdoor venues.

Ada midget football, Ada youth flag football and Ada youth cheerleading sign-ups for the 2018 season will be held on Wednesday, July 11, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Ada Park Building (Brown building on the corner right before the football stadium).

Ken Collins camera caught some of the activity at the Ada/Kenton “fun swim meet” on Monday evening at the Ada Pool. Some of the events included the "corkscrew," the "doggie paddle," and the "dolphin" swim styles. Contestants also vied for the title of biggest splash.  The winner was FUN since there were no timers or regular judges.

Second-year head coach Jackie Price had the Polar Bear softball team competing a high level once again in 2018 as Northern grabbed the OAC Tournament title, advanced to the NCAA Tournament and recorded its 13th straight upper-division Ohio Athletic Conference finish this season.

Northern finished the 2018 season with an impressive 32-11 record, which are the most wins the program has seen in a single season since Price played for the Polar Bears in 2010.
