ADA - Host Ada scored five runs in the sixth inning to break a tie and win 10-5 over visiting McComb in a non-conference softball contest on a warm Tuesday evening.

 

The Lady Bulldogs improved to 14-8 with the comeback win. The contest was added to the schedule as a tune-up for the sectional final Thursday.

 

"We played better defensively as the game went on," said Ada head coach Troy Erickson. "Maddie Gossard pitched a solid game. Sidney Gossard had a big game hitting, and Maddie got some big hits, too."

KENTON - The Ada boys tennis team concluded its regular season with a decisive 4-1 victory at Hardin County foe Kenton on a warm Tuesday evening.

The win improved the Bulldog record to 11-1 this season, the best in program history. Ada finished a perfect 6-0 on the road this spring.

 

The Bulldogs lost just a combined two games in their four two-set victories.

 

Senior Zach Beaschler ran his record to 17-0 with a double-bagel win at first singles.

 

Junior Cade Mullins improved to 13-2 at second singles with another 12-game sweep at second singles.

UPPER SANDUSKY - The streaking Ada boys tennis team defeated Upper Sandusky easily by a 4-1 count Monday evening.

 

The Bulldog netters improved to 10-1 with their fourth consecutive victory. Ada dominated the three singles matches so thoroughly that they did not drop a single game in six sets.

 

Unbeaten senior Beaschler improved to 16-0 this spring at first singles with a double bagel win.

 

Junior Cade Mullins ran his record to 12-2 with a blowout win at second singles.

 

Sophomore Isaac Spar also won handily at third singles.

The Ohio Northern softball team will face Case Western Reserve in the first round of the St. Mary's Regional on Thursday in the NCAA III Softball Tournament.

Times for the four-team, double elimination Regional in South Bend, Ind., will be announced on Tuesday.

No. 10-ranked tournament host Saint Mary's (Ind.) will face Mount Aloysius (Pa.) in the other first round contest on Thursday.

The Polar Bears (30-9 overall) earned the Ohio Athletic Conference's automatic bid to the NCAA III Championships by winning the OAC Tournament last weekend.

ONU senior Kirsten Lightel (Tallmadge) was named the Ohio Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Year and the Northern coaching staff claimed Coaching Staff of the Years honors as the ONU softball team saw six athletes garner All-Conference honors for the 2018 season.
