Ohio Northern junior center Ryan Bruns (Marion Local) was named the Division III National Player of the Week by the United States Basketball Writers Association on Tuesday.
He was also named to the D3hoops.com Team of the Week on Tuesday.
Bruns had career-highs of 41 points and 17 rebounds in the Polar Bears' 108-87 victory over Muskingum and scored 23 points and grabbed six rebounds in a victory at then-No. 25 ranked Baldwin Wallace.
For the week, Bruns averaged 32 points and 11.5 rebounds and added five blocked shots.
He was also named the Ohio Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week on Monday.
Ohio Northern senior Sydney Veon (Riverside, Ill./Riverside-Brookfield) has been named the Ohio Athletic Conference Women's Swimmer of the Week.
The senior led the Polar Bears in an OAC matchup with Mount Union on Sunday afternoon, posting victories in four events to help ONU claim a 160-120 victory on Sunday afternoon.
In a span of about 10 minutes, Veon won the 100 breast in 1:08.63 and the 50 free in :25.66. Later in the meet she won the 100 free in :56.56.
Veon would also help the Polar Bear 200-meter medley relay team capture first place.
Ohio Northern senior Braden Kuhn (Tiffin/Columbian) has been named the Ohio Athletic Conference Men's Swimmer of the Week.
The senior led the Polar Bears (4-0 overall, 3-0 OAC) to a 182-118 victory over Mount Union and at least a share of the OAC Regular Season Crown for the 12th time.
Kuhn swept the diving competitions to lead the way for Northern in its victory over Mount Union.
He won the 1-meter diving with 280.85 points, surpassing the NCAA qualifying standard of 275 on the 1-meter board. He also won the 3-meter diving with 258.15 points.
ONU senior Alex Bair (Centerville) has been named the Ohio Athletic Conference Wrestler of the Week.
The senior earned the honor for the first time in his career after posting a 4-0 record this week at the Lycoming (Pa.) Duals.
Bair went 4-0 with a pin, tech fall, major decision and decision at the Lycoming (Pa.) Duals. He was named to the All-Tournament Team as the top wrestler at 184 pounds.
The Polar Bears return to action on Tuesday evening as they travel to John Carroll to take on the Blue Streaks at 7:30 pm.
