The Ohio Northern volleyball team is set to open its 2018 campaign with the 40th Annual ONU Invitational on Aug. 31-Sept. 1 at the ONU Sports Center under 28th-year head coach Kate Witte.
The Polar Bears will also play in-season tournaments at Bluffton, Wittenberg and Calvin (Mich.)
The schedule also features non-conference home contests with Denison and Bluffton and a road match at Kenyon.
Northern will begin the quest for its third consecutive Ohio Athletic Conference Regular Season title with a match at John Carroll on Sept. 25.
ADA - Host Ada ran out to a big early lead and cruised to a 57-36 victory over winless Perry in non-league girls basketball action Tuesday night.
The purple and gold improved to 3-9 with the lopsided win, while the undersized Lady Commodores fell to 0-7 after the defeat.
Ada led 8-0 out of the gate and later put the game out of reach with a 13-0 run to start the second half.
"It was good to get a W again, I am happy for the girls," said fourth-year Ada head coach Bill Taflinger. "We needed that, especially after Saturday's loss to Kenton.
She among the nation’s top volleyball hitters. It only took 80 sets for her to get 665 kills (a per set mark of 8.3). She also averaged 4.0 digs and 4.7 serve receptions per set, as well as serving 38 aces and blocking 67 shots.
“She” is Ada’s Melina Woods, recently name to the second team MaxPreps 2017 high school Small Schools All-American Girls’ Volleyball team.

The Ohio Northern women's basketball team cracked the top-10 in the sixth weekly D3Hoops.com poll after jumping four spots to No. 10 in the sixth weekly coaches poll.
After falling in their season-opener, the Polar Bears (12-1 overall, 6-0 OAC) have won 12 straight, including handing undefeated and nationally-ranked Marietta its first loss of the season.

ONU senior Amy Bullimore (Morrow/Little Miami) has been named the women's basketball Ohio Athletic Conference Player of the Week.
She averaged a double-double during the week, posting her fourth and fifth consecutive double-double's as Northern defeated Otterbein and No. 18-ranked Marietta.
In the contest against Otterbein, Bullimore tallied a season-best 15 rebounds and a game-high 18 points to lead ONU in the victory.
ADA - Rugged visiting New Knoxville used a big third period to pull away from Ada and post a 63-47 non-conference boys basketball win Saturday night.
The purple and gold drop to 2-9 with their seventh straight defeat, while the Rangers improve to 4-5 with the victory.
Ada trailed just 27-21 at halftime. But with junior post Connor Frazier benched to start half two with three fouls, NK scored inside repeatedly. The Rangers surged to a 13-4 start en route to a decisive 20-9 third period edge.
The visitors led by as many as 17 in the final period and never by less than 13, keeping the Bulldogs at bay.
