DELPHOS - Ada senior middle Melina Woods completed two three-peats this past week.
Woods led Ada to its third straight Northwest Conference title and then won NWC volleyball Player of the Year honors for the third year in a row in voting conducted by league coaches at Delphos Sunday.
Behind Woods, Ada clinched its second straight outright, undefeated NWC title this season and third consecutive championship overall, including a shared crown in 2015. The Bulldogs have gone 23-1 in the NWC over the past three seasons, and were 29-3 over her conference career.
Ohio Northern sophomore Chelsea Huppert (Bremen, Ind.) has been named the Ohio Athletic Conference Volleyball Player of the Week for the week of Oct. 9-15.
Huppert led the Polar Bears (21-4 overall, 4-1 OAC) to a perfect 4-0 week, including OAC victories over Heidelberg and John Carroll.
The sophomore ranked second on the team during the week with 44 kills, while hitting a solid .333.
Huppert also had a phenomenal week defensively, recording 14 blocks, including a game-high six blocks in a 3-0 sweep over Rose-Hulman (Ind.) on Friday afternoon.
The Ada football team takes the field on Friday...wearing pink socks. The Bulldogs beat Paulding. Maybe they should wear pink sock at every game. The Bulldogs got into the spirit to raise awareness and collect money for breast cancer. The cancer effort was sponsored by the cheerleaders who held a clinic that evening for 68 future cheerleaders from preschool to fifth grade.
ONU senior Emily Richards (Delaware/Hayes) finished 10th of 332 runners on Saturday afternoon to lead the Polar Bears at the Principia (Ill.) Cowbell Classic Pre-Nationals meet.
The Polar Bears (63-26 overall) finished 17th of 36 teams at the event.
Head coach Jason Maus improved his overall record at Ohio Northern to 749-342 and surpassed former head coach Brian Cole to become to winningest women's head cross country coach in school history.
