TIFFIN — The No. 19-ranked Ohio Northern men's cross country team posted a fifth place finish on Saturdayafternoon at the Tiffelberg Open at the Clinton Heights Golf Course.
Northern finished fifth of nine teams and moved its record to 30-6 on the season.
Junior Ian McVey (Stow/Munroe Falls) led Northern across the finish line in 25:26.
Senior Bobby Borger (Perrysburg) also posted a top-10 finish for Northern, finishing the race in 26:07.
Senior Sam Boyd (Killbuck/West Holmes) rounded out the trio of ONU athletes in the top-15 as he finished 12th in 26:26.
OBERLIN — Freshmen Hoang Do (Powell/Olentangy Liberty) and Vinh Thai (Galloway/St. Charles) led the Ohio Northern men's tennis team as it competed in the first day of the Oberlin Tournament on Saturday afternoon.
Do and Thai teamed up in doubles play to take down a duo from John Carroll, 8-5 to lead ONU on the afternoon.
Junior Tim Kargl (Downers Grove, Ill./South) and sophomore Andrew Garcia (Downers Grove, Ill./South) fell in doubles play in a hard-fought 8-5 decision against John Carroll on court No. 16.
CLEVELAND — Freshman Sydney Leshnak (Liberty Township/Mount Notre Dame) scored her first career goal to lead the Ohio Northern women's soccer team to its second straight victory, as Ohio Northern defeated Case Western Reserve 1-0 on Saturday afternoon.
The Polar Bears improve to 4-1-1 overall, while the Spartans fall to 3-3-0.
Leshnak scored the only goal of the contest to lead ONU offensively.
The lone goal of the afternoon was scored in the 18th minute as Leshnak played a free kick from 30 yards out and scored to put Northern ahead 1-0.
The Spartans outshot the Polar Bears by 14-12 margin, and won the corner kick battle 7-6.
SPRINGFIELD — The Ohio Northern volleyball team used a balanced offensive scoring attack as it defeated No. 9-ranked Washington (Mo.) in four sets on the first day of the Wittenberg Fall Classic.
The Polar Bears improve to 8-2 on the year, while the Bears fall to 5-4.
Senior Haley Potters (Wheelersburg/South Webster) and sophomore Sydney Bapst (Grove City) led the way for Northern offensively, recording 11 kills each in the victory.
Sophomore Chelsea Huppert (Bremen, Ind.) chipped in nine kills for Northern.
MT. BLANCHARD - The Ada cross country teams competed at the Riverdale
Invitational Thursday afternoon.
The Bulldog boys finished eighth out of 12 teams, beating Hardin Northern,
Allen East, Cory-Rawson and Pandora-Gilboa. The Ada boys finished four
places higher than they did at last year's Riverdale meet.
